I looked at the 3008 Steve, my titchy missus (4’9″ of determined opinions) could not get into it and I cannot lift her! She hated it and TBH so did I, the auto box was notchy and I did not like the cabin. We can both get into and out of the Tucson more easily, although still a bit of a stretch for SWMBO. As she says though, at her size and with her own spinal problems, the Tucson was the best compromise. What we both liked about the Tucson was the smooth and comfortable ride, which is one of the main considerations with our problems. A saloon or a hatchback is a complete no-no, we cannot enter one at all and if we got into the seats, we would need a block and tackle to get out!
I joke about SWMBO, but this is a choice that must suit both of us, as you will understand. Personally, with my attitude towards money, I would probably wind up with a big 4WD (I had a seat in a Hyundai Santa Fé and loved it) but my missus is the effective financial brake that I need.
Santa Fé – OOOOH BIG and SHINY: –

EDIT: The only Suitable Peugeot now listed is the 5008 – £2,200 just for the manual, no auto listed. The others are the Bread Vans :negative: (Partners)

I'm out.Brexit and the fall in the GBPound has continued to make stuff produced outside the UK, expensive to import. Not meant as political comment, but fact. Today I booked my Motability C-Max in for its first MOT and Condition Report photographs, in preparation for my next lease, the Hyundai Tucson.
(Condition Report decides if I get £250 cashback from Motability)
The Ford dealer asked why I was not taking another C-Max. Love to, I said, but the 2.0 TDCi is no longer listed and the 1.5 is too high a deposit, besides which I didn’t want a 1.5, it’s an emasculated 2.0 liter. They got somewhat shirty about this, so I asked them to consider corresponding with all UK Ford Motability dealers and complain to Henry Ford that Motability sales are down because the cars are made outside of the UK. So is the Tucson, says they. Yes, says I, a long way from the UK, so how come I can get what is a better car for less money? Silence.
It makes me wonder why some goods manufactured outside the UK are more expensive than similar goods from another country of manufacture.

I'm out.Last time I was in hospital for more than a day, was Grimsby and they had these dumb things at every bed. I rejected the use of it and just kept my phone, I was informed that I could not use my phone and I asked for a reason. Along came some Admin bigwig who read me a long spiel about interference with hospital equipment. I blew this argument apart by pointing out that (a) modern phones do not cause interference and (b) about six feet behind him in the corridor, was a surgeon (mine) using his mobile. One admin bod, performing a good impression of a goldfish. 🙁
I knew I had made a good decision when I witnessed two patients having daily problems with these ridiculous pieces of junk. After being told by said admin mouthpiece that I would not be able to watch TV or phone home, I said that I was about to have an operation that would kill my TV interest for days, and he would not be capable of parting me from my phone. I retained it. :good:

I'm out.Yes the CSI’s suffered from the usual American Networks overkill: if it works, mutiply it and flog it to death. The entertainment value decreased in inverse proportion to the number of variants and spin-offs.I really enjoyed the first, original CSI. That cast was pretty good, the interplay between characters was great and Grissom led by not being a leader. Plotlines were fresh and acting was superb.
Then it became stale: how many similar, often unbelievable storylines can you take? I’m afraid that “Silent Witness” on the Beeb, is beginning to suffer in the same way. Once it was brilliant, fresh an imaginative, but the last series was awkward and the plots were becoming hard to believe. How many times can we believe that Pathologists make better detectives than the Police? The last episode, in Mexico, was just ludicrous. Obviously made with a bigger than normal budget, but a failure.

I visited RAF Chilmark once I think, for certain stores whilst in the AAC, but the RGHQ was not built until after my time.
I share your view that cannabis should be legalised, Ed. For medical use it could be made into a tablet or liquid medicine. For ‘recreational use’ it could be produced in private factories (with employees suitably protected against dangerous fumes) and the result could be taxed, bringing in revenue to replace that lost to Tobacco products after most smokers gave up.
Another result would be a possible drop in crime, for two reasons: spliffs readily available to those who want them, without risking a police record. And much of the population concerned, will be too relaxed to leave home and commit crime. :good:  :yahoo:

I'm out.New version looks great on the desktop Lee, but I have a 24″ monitor so it would. Bearing in mind that I have poor sight now, I would prefer that version as OK. But I think someone with a smaller monitor needs to answer. For me, it’s fine.

I'm out. When my 23 yo gson was 14, was when I found out that he had quietly become a networking genius. He was offered by his large technical academy, work with a company setting up a college-wide TV/educational network in the summer holidays. He jumped at it and got on with the techs he was working with very well, which IMO was when he began to really progress out of his Aspergers shell. I picked him up and took him home: one evening, about halfway through the project, he was still working across the other side and I spoke to the project manager. He told me that my then 14 yo gson had suggested modifications which not only worked, but took me to their Portacabin and showed me the improved networks, on several whiteboards and the manager’s laptop. I recognised gson’s tiny but clearly legible printing and began to realise that we had someone special in our family.
Aparently the modifications resulted in less cabling and reduced power demands. He also advised them to fit an alternative server to the one they planned. The manager wanted to offer gson a job as soon as he left college. They kept in touch, but when gson left, he had found a job with a local company. I used to pick him up from college every evening (mum being at work) and always had to wait, as his dedicated tutor would be shoving something new and extra-curricular into his head. I would look at the two TV’s in the reception area and think, I know who set that up. Big pride! I don’t know what they paid him, but I do know that the manager visited his mum and gave it to her. It was used to add to investments she already has for him: his only use for money is to keep him in rent, utilities, food and Games.
Nowadays he can lose my head when he talks about his work, but he has everything in his flat networked and streamed.

I'm out.Playing catchup with Sky box sets has been interesting for me, particularly with GoT. I saw the last episodes before the first ones, but because of the kind of show it is, I watched the first two episodes after the last 3: or maybe 4, I kind of serial-watched late at night, lost track. I looked on the first episodes as watching the history of the later ones, which worked for me, in a weird but enjoyable way. Never thought I would get hooked on it, now I am looking for the books and waiting for the next series. Boardwalk Empire is another one I like and am watching out of sync, but I could not get into Fortitude after the first episode.

I'm out.Best coat I ever bought is still with me, only just beginning to show its age: 21 years. Never seen another, it’s a full length fake sheepskin (but thick) with a shiny lining and is very warm. Full length metal zip, two large metal-zip side pockets. It is called a “Westwind” never seen another and never found the manufacturer. Youngest gdaughter christened it Shaun the Sheep a few years ago, after the cartoon show that we both still watch and laugh at today. It was expensive, even in the EWM sales:
£15. I hate buying clothes and would be happy at buying from the charity shop racks. The only one in the family who does the same, is my SIL, we have very similar taste in clothes and swop locations of clothes the other would like in charity shops. According to my daughter, wife and all other family members, means that we both have no taste whatsoever.
I like Shaun because the sleeves are long enough to roll over my hands when it’s cold. I hate wearing gloves. The pockets are also secure enough for my phone and other stuff. I have no idea how I will replace Shaun when he eventually wears out and goes to pasture in the sky. Something will come up.

I'm out.Lhasa Apso is the name of the larger looking shiztu bread bob. Not around slows dogs down, mine has his wotsits removed, and was back ‘you know whating’ within 24h! Hope all ends well. Every time I go the vets, and compare it to the NHS, I think the Americans may be into something!
Yes he’s a Lhasa Apso, I forgot that. Great little dog he is. Gets to certain doors and stops dead until someone comes out and gives him some fuss and a treat: we all have a bag of small dog biscuits now, don’t give him more than one. Funnily, if I am out and the car is not there, he will not stop, according to his owner. Never heard him bark. I like this:
“Every time I go the vets, and compare it to the NHS, I think the Americans may be into something!”
Very true – compare RSPCA (Royal) with NSPCC (National.) And some Royals are shooting animals, while they are supposed to be protecting them.

I'm out.EE move goalposts to another pitch, miles away! SWMBO and I have always been able to access our accounts on this desktop, her laptop or either phone, just using the phone number once registered and setup. This week they decided we needed to do it the hard way: input email address and password as well. Fine, I thought, did that on the phone. That’s not your password, they said. Oh yes it is, it’s the only one I have, tried again. Not you. Went to the desktop and registered: password worked. Anticipating the same problem, SWMBO tried to access hers via the laptop. Not your password, 3 times. She tried her phone, same password, it worked. I am just waiting for my current PAYG funds to end, then I am going to try a Plan with someone else.
Richard, I share your village access pita, in spades. (Pun intended!) Every year, our District and Lincolnshire County Councils decide to use up their remaining Highways money before the April cut off. If they have any left at that point, next year’s budget is cut by central government, by that amount. This year they have had a gov windfall of extra money and an orgy of road mending has commenced. In a coincidence that no one could make up, at the same time, Anglian Water are attempting to find the reason for a loss of pressure across the district and THEY are removing bits of Linconshire. Meanwhile, the continuing work of laying hundreds of miles and building several sub-stations, to accommodate the more efficient transfer of windfarm power to the National Grid, goes on. As it is also the time of year when the big Farm Combines around here are transporting machinery, seed, and huge amounts of sticky, smelly stuff around the county, large amounts of massive agricultural machinery are trundling around and adding their leftovers to the mix. We now have an inkling of how the PBI must have felt in the WWI trenches. No vehicle passing along our roads, is managing to do so without acquiring a coating of dirty brown sludge atm. :negative:

I'm out. Thanks guys. I get it, Steve. Don’t forget your Phaser, it’s by the airlock … Beam him up, Scotty.
Steve, the lady has a dog like yours, but a bit bigger, nosy and very active, he thinks that every house in the Close is his to enter, everybody loves Bailey. Two days ago he was at the vet’s for a small surface lump that turned out to be a big internal benign growth. Half the fur on his back gone and a big line of stitches. Has not slowed him down at all, it’s always fun watching her try to keep up with him. 🙂
Different news this morning. Now this confused (and confusing) lady has found her password and Gmail account that I asked her for at the start. She could not remember it and could not find it. As I suspected, she spoke to her brother and he reminded her that the Hudl was insured under the house contents policy. (something else I asked about) Brother told her to phone them and they told her to produce the parts I replaced (I gave them in a box yesterday) and her Google account details, so that they “..could use a data recovery company to recover her photos.” They will probably charge the Insurance a big bill for that, I told her. Considering the initial price of a Hudl1, they may then use that as an excuse to refuse to support her claim. I reminded her that I could have checked her Google account myself and probably recovered everything – IF she had checked for Automatic Backup at registration.
My sympathy and patience are tested to the limit now… :negative:

I'm out.Well the lady has taken it back, along with the invoices for the parts bought and a printed explanation of everything done. I did this not for her sake, but because she is giving it to her brother, who I don’t know. He may be a perfectly reasonable chap, I have no idea, but I am always wary of situations that can arise from family members concerned about each other’s welfare. However, as is my wont, I introduced a little levity, as follows:
“What is your brother’s name?” – “JIM.” I couldn’t resist it, could you? – “Would you give him a message from me please?” – “Certainly, what is it?”
(With an absolutely straight face) “Tell him ………………………………… It’s dead, Jim.”
She didn’t get it at first. Walked out of the door, past the window, suddenly threw back her head and cracked up. Carried on to her bungalow, shaking her head. I think they only tolerate me around here for entertainment purposes.
