Yesterday and today, slow and 2x “Internal Server Error” messages, then blinked out. Using the highly technical ‘switch off & on again’ procedure, I closed FFox, restarted and all ticketty-boo for a moment. Then slowed again.

I’ll hang around for a bit, then leave it for Dr. Lee to apply treatment. Submit button is fine for me, but I only view now on 8″ tablet or 24″ monitor.

Amazon don’t claim that all of their TV and films are free. In the same way as Sky don’t give you free access to all of the content they have.

One of the reasons why I will end my Sky deals when the contract ends. I have found many movies and shows , cheaper elsewhere. some of the prices Sky want to charge, are exorbitant. Many movies & shows are cheaper, but they are older items which are even cheaper (sometimes free) elsewhere. I am disappointed with Sky, but had to try it.

I would not contemplate watching this kind of movie:

“So am I really robbing them of their profit when I watch some movie during which I can’t stop thinking why someone made it at all?”

Any of the other activities you describe would be a better form of entertainment than wasting time on something which offers no pleasure. And I didn’t actually mention downloading movies: I said “.. downloading anything…” I was referring to all forms of downloadable entertainment or information.

China is the key. From all reports, it appears that the Chinese are getting more and more irritated with Kim. If, that is, we can believe what we read and view: the Chinese are not called “inscrutable” for nothing. Sir Winston once said that Russia is “A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.”  China is much more of a puzzle to the West than Russia will ever be, their long, long history has taught them to dislike and even fear the effect of outside forces until the recent past.

However, the blocking of North Korean coal imports and other measures, may be a start. The sudden apparent chumminess between the presidents of the USA and China is another sign. It may be that Trump has made some concessions concerning the South China Sea islands created by the PRC, in exchange for dropping support for Kim and his dictatorship.

Sabre-rattling continues, but I don’t believe even Trump is daft enough to contemplate the results of a serious attack upon North Korea. Surely he understands the concept of MAD? (Mutually Assured Destruction, what a totally descriptive acronym!)

Oh, for the days of the original Cold War, when we knew who the enemy was!

Steve I hate to tell you this, but the consensus of medical opinion nowadays, is that a body’s tolerance of alcohol decreases as the body ages. :negative:  😥

Another for my List: to see one more sunset over my favourite Alpine valley. Füssen, Bayern.

Just about the right angle: probably taken from the high meadow where my old AAC unit would camp every spring for 7 weeks, between 1968 and 1975 when I left Germany. I went back in 1983 and there were still powder blue berets riding bikes around. But in ’75 ther wer only 2 or 3 houses below us, just farms. Füssen is the town, it’s a beautiful area, air like wine. Deep South of Germany, in the High Alps.

What I know about Kodi is limited to what I might have read, never having used it. But I took the statement  “…blocking these add-ons wasn’t an option…” – to have a similar meaning to how most copyright issues in images, video and music are dealt with by the public. In other words, if they are so minded, people can download pirate material by discovering the means to do so, or buying a device with the means embedded in hardware.

Disregarding industry “fat cat” references, most people find the practice of avoiding copyright either abhorrent, or beyond their abilities.

I have recently bought some photographs of my youngest gdaughter’s recent Dance Show at a local theatre. The Dance company always hires a professional photographer, for stills and videos of the performances. Between the family, we buy a hard copy of any image that anyone in the family would like for themselves. Having a dedicated 5- cartridge HP Photosmart printer, I then print off any further copies required by other family members, at the highest resolution, on the best paper. The copies I make are indistinguishable from originals, which have no watermarks. Does that mean that I have committed a crime? In real terms, yes, but it comes down to plain commonsense. But I would balk at illegally downloading anything that robbed someone of profit for their work.

You could say that the photographs are a “Grey Area”, but they are in full colour! Soooorrrrreeeee! 😉  🙂  :yahoo:

EDIT: written after Steve’s post. His last says it all – Kodi will benefit from the old adage – there is no such thing as bad publicity.

John thanks for that, I have printed off that whole Post and will read it closely with my SWMBO. Both of us have problems, SWMBO’s exacerbated by a bungled op on her right (master) hand which brought about her retirement from a job she loved as PA to 3 people. She cannot use her right hand much at all now.

Ed and Richard, thanks for the input. I take note of the dosage and will refrain from ingesting more, should we decide to go the Boron route. Regarding trace elements and their uses in the humn body: it is not widely known, but wheat grown in the UK, Europe and much of the Middle East, has greatly – reduced levels of Selenium, due to depletion in the soil. This is apparently caused by the much longer cultivation in those areas, whilst the USA, Canada, Australia, NZ and other places have not been cultivating the land for centuries and their soils are not so depleted.

https://tinyurl.com/kuknp2n     – As with all such substances, a little is good, a lot is very bad, toxic in fact. It appears that the correct amount needed by the body, calls for a very fine judgement.

Dave, I have a mate back in Notts who is a couple of years younger than me,retired and  highly skilled carpenter and joiner, who has had so many Goldwings. When he retired, he was given an original 1974-built GW, which he rebuilt and still remains with him. That ended any thoughts of a restful retirement, as Jack realised that he could apply a part time experience of owning and rebuilding GW’s, to a full-time passion. Might have been a problem for any other wife, but Jack’s missus is just as bonkers about them as he is.

Jack is a huge, red-haired and-bearded Sunderland supporter, who came down with his dad when their pits closed up there, one of my oldest mates. He has rebuilt so many GW’s to such a high standard, that he is well known across the country. Example: last month I met a middle aged guy from Sheffield, with a 2002 flat 6 in Cleethorpes. I mentioned Jack: “Well that’s who rebuilt it for me! It was a wreck when I bought it.”

As a woodworker, he was also a pretty good snooker player and built cues for himself and friends: I had one until my arthritis put an end to that activity. Every cue Jack made was built from Maple, he would not use Ash as most others did. Jack was one of those guys who could not make anything imperfect. My own cue went to my nephew, who regularly commits sacrilege by playing Pool with it, the heathen! :negative:

JB: hope there is nothing wrong with your prostate, good luck with the results John. Also hope they can get back to you swiftly with the results, nothing worse than waiting and wondering.

Spedley: that’s my plan, to escape the guy with the scythe. Or take each day as it comes. I was the youngest (by 15 years) of 3 brothers and they told me that our dad had the Secret Of Life, which he told them both as they each became 14 years old. Came my turn, dad took me aside on the morning of my 14th and told me “The Secret Of Life is….. (looked behind, to left and right, no one else there) …. keep waking up each morning!” He thought that was hysterically funny, I just wished I had a kid brother that I could torment with the expectation, as my bro’s tormented me!

Unfortunately, both dad and eldest brother failed to wake again in 1988. Second bro is still hanging in there at 87.

See West Wales again: I haven’t been for several years, too wrapped up in European trips. Now air travel is ruined for me, I would like to see more of my own country. An old dream was to tour the entire coast of the UK in a motorhome, never got to do that and probably won’t now. I would also like to see Bruges/Brugge again, by road & Eurotunnel. That is a beautiful city: thanks to the City Council, every owner of the ancient buildings, has to ensure that they are kept in pristine condition. You see 14th Century buildings which have the appearance of being built last month!

But I would really love to have another River Cruise, preferably involving a finish at Budapest.

As I rambled through my vinyl & CD collection, in the ongoing effort to get all my music onto the NAS and produce USB Playlists for the car, I found a “Johnny Kidd & the Pirates” album. Keef, you sound like you are part of the Oldphart Generation that would like this stuff when it was new, as I did. For anyone who has never heard JK & the Pirates, here’s what good early British Rock’n’Roll sounded like:

Btw, I had one of the first Ducatti 250’s in the UK. Wrapped it around a 5-way junction, sold the remains and joined the Army, bought cars. I grew to like GF’s who preferred to go out in something other than leathers, smelling of something better than oil and petrol. B-)  😉

I love those Ball Clocks! Family call me The Clock Monster, there is at least 1 in every room of the bungalow. Living at my granparents’ Staffordshire cottage as a kid, I would fall asleep in a feather bed, listening to the Grandfather clock in the hall, chiming quarters and hours. As I was having a very bad time at home then, it became a comforting sound. Granddad was not the Clock Monster there, that was gran, born in a Romany van in the West Country. She brought the clock, pots and pans to the marriage: how her family managed with that massive clock in the Van, I can only wonder at. The pots & pans were used to make some of the tastiest meals I have ever eaten. Granddad bought me a Mickey Mouse watch in about 1950, I wish I had it now!

My lovely MIL did me an enormous honour, by giving me the old mantel clock that was her grandfather’s. He was a Griffiths, a watch and clock maker and repairer in Nuneaton. He also travelled around Warwickshire and Worcestershire, setting and repairing church clocks. The mantel clock had stopped and needed repair, which caused me to take it to a clock repairer: his work was carp and the clock is now the world’s slowest timepiece. It has not stopped in 2 years, but just keeps going very, very slowly. I must make a point of finding a recommended clock repairer.

                                Mickey mouse watch, 1950 –

Memories! The oldest memories are now becoming the sharpest in my mind.

I did however work with a number of Japanese and Japanese teams on major construction projects, and while hierarchies are good for building consensus their weak point is deference to someone perceived as stronger/wiser etc. This deference is a major problem when the ‘wise one’ ain’t so wise!

Apologies, Ryan! But thanks very much for those clips, wish I could say that I could get up to that Mach Loop and see some of that.

Atm I am severely p****d off with my Garmin, which I regularly update and which has led me onto the wrong route twice in a month. Last time was the London trek, when it attempted to send me through Central London to get from Lincolnshire to Beckenham, then again on the return journey. Today I took my youngest gdaughter to a new attraction in South Lincolnshire, the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park:

                                            https://tinyurl.com/kdluxp2

I knew it was way out in the sticks, but I also knew roughly where it was. The Garmin eventually put us on almost 3 miles of the worst road I have ever travelled (and in Lincolnshire, that is saying something!) which had a 60 limit, but could not be driven at over 25 without smacking the sump on the road. A straight, single track road with one Passing Place: fortunately I could see the only approaching car well before I got to it, and was able to pull over. The family in that car, probably tourists, were travelling slowly and looked terrified. On the return journey, I came back the way I correctly guessed would get me home, which was shorter and about 1000% smoother!

As for the Park itself: OK if you are in the area, but 2 or 3 hours sees everything. The usual Meerkats, gazillions of Parrots, Cockatoos, Cockateels, Birds of Prey, Lemurs, Rheas, Peacocks, a Coatamundi and a Tapir named Cecil. Oh – and some very sleepy Tigers. Smaller kids loved it, but my blasé Gd was as bored as the Tigers looked, after an hour. Food is not bad.

I am returning to a good map and RAC Roadworks reports, with a Google route.
