Just navigated back to a post I made about 15 minutes ago. “EDIT|REPLY|QUOTE all there. Ed, are you saying “EDIT” disappears after 30 min’s (or whatever? I will test that later, but atm it appears that anyone can access and then edit their own posts. I will check later to see if that holds water.

It was only a matter of time…. now, how long before Microsoft have to backtrack on this?

Microsoft does not see customers as anything else but victims.

I have mentioned my two gsons (cousins) here before, but to recap: 23 yo has Aspergers, has very high intelligence, a high-end job where he has gradually become indispensable according to his boss. Almost zero social skills, cannot eye-contact or talk to anyone he has not known for long, his life is all work and home in his modern, luxury flat with a very complex computer and server system, all connected to his TV, entertainment and Games. He is permanently on call for work, which to an outsider sounds like slavery, but that is how he likes it, he thrives on specialist IT work and has just been instrumental in acquiring and keeping a massive new contract. To anyone else, that sounds plain wrong, but apart from family get-togethers among those he knows and loves, he has no interest in any other social life and is completely happy on his own. The reason why he has done so well, is about 90% down to his mum* and Richard’s very true statement – Early help is beyond value. Our daughter was left with him as a baby when his moronic ratbag dad left her in loads of debt and cleared off to his secretary. She worked 3 jobs and took part time study to clear debt and become a specialist one to one teacher, all whilst badgering various NHS people and consultants to get him diagnosed. *T’other 10% was down to the family, we supported mum and gson: as his sister and cousins were born and grew up, we all got behind him.

His 18 yo cousin is severely dyslexic but has worked hard to bypass fellow students who did not put in the work he has done. He is attending an Electrical Engineering course at a large College 3 days a week, works the other 2 days at an engineering factory where he has been working since a 1 day Work experience from school at a Technical academy, at 14. He does not have his cousin’s high intelligence, but does share his monster work ethic and these two are very close: no one else can get a word in when they are together. That is valuable.

The 2 girl cousins are 20 and 11 and also close, but show no signs of any partof the autistic spectrum. Although both are bright, the 11 yo may well be as intelligent as her 23 yo brother. I know of other families who have a daughter with Aspergers, but apprently the ratio of males to females is high. I personally believe that these conditions are evolution in action: a drive towards an “upgrade” in brain activity. The results will not be truly apparent for some time.

That is why I say to anyone with children who show signs of the spectrum, get it diagnosed early! You will always struggle against the reactionnaries within education and the NHS, but you have to fight them and become a bloody nuisance until you get somewhere. You also need to make the family and the child aware that they need to be solid in support for each other: a family that supports, and loves, each member, especially one seen as “different” will always work in the best interests of the child.

The added problem for our 23 yo. is that he has developed Thyroid problems over the last 2 years. It was overactive and now appears to be under active. Typically, he sees this as a minor inconvenience and his appointments and treatment have to be monitored. Enter the 18 yo cousin, who can say stuff to him that we other family members cannot. One thing I will add, is that this has brought our small family together. Every birthday is celebrated with a “do” and these are special occasions. Family is important.

Sorry about the long Post and repeated stuff from other times here, but I feel very strongly about this.

EDIT: forgot to say, Steve, good news about the Duchess is very welcome. I wish you and yours all the best.

+1 to Dave & Macrium Reflect: all my NAS and external backups are carried out using that, and I made a bootable CDwith it.

Jason: I take all my electronic, electrical, plastic and metal waste to the local Council dump, which has a WEE area. Lots of dangerous metals and bits in a Hdd and similar components, environmentally toxic.

Yes Steve I have True Caller, offered again with other useful stuff. It does look like stock Android, no CM logo appears and the Wfox logo has changed colour, sort of assembles itself from bits at boot up. I am very happy with it. No CM at all in ‘About phone’ – just Android version 7.1.1. looks as if CM has bit the dust. One thing that bugs me is that none of the Suppliers recognises Wfox phones. I have just got a cracking contract from EE by threatening to walk, set it up but will not recognise the Wfox. That means I cannot get WiFi Calling. Bugga! Have to say that I am still pleased with the phone though, especially after the update to Nougat. Makes it feel like a new phone. 🙂

Also many thanks for the advice you gave about tethering some time ago. I now have the phone tethering the tablet and also have Google working across both, with the desktop, all synced & backed up. I am beginning to believe in Google now!

I like it as it is now, having viewed it on a 5.5″ phone, 8″ tablet and this 24″ monitor. The Blue contrast is fine IMO, it draws the eye, but it is subjective, as has been said. My eyesight is poor now, have to use 2x spec’s, for outdoor and reading.

No problems for me on Outlook/Hotmail today. In fact my only problem is that every day I am receiving Adult Dating Site emails, always Junked by Outlook and then blocked by me.

But that is nothing to the amount of Scandinavian Spam I get on Gmail. (Spamdinavian?):) That is all in some Norse language or other, might enjoy it if I could understand it. 😉  :yahoo: I have asked Google about blocking it, far too much of it, have to see what they make of it.

I linked my Gmail and Hotmail accounts some time ago.

That’s interesting Knight: I have now met all local candidates and have liked our local LibDem National candidate and the Labour candidate for Council election in our revamped, redrawn local Council area. I have decided to vote for them both, I cannot stand our local MP, she is the ex-barrister who drew up the legalese behind the Investigatory Powers Act. She also totally ignored the hundreds of “VOTE LEAVE” signs scattered around Lincolnshire and advised her constituents in East Lindsey to vote Remain. Finger not on the pulse, hands not on the wheel! East Lindsey returned one of the highest proportions of Leave votes in the UK. Not counting my Remain vote, but with SWMBO’s Leave vote.

Having met them all, and thoroughly dissected the arguments and blind racism of the BNP moron, I have to say that I cannot vote for another dose of dishonest Tory shenanigans, nor can I vote for the Party led by a man who has no idea that stands up to actual economic scrutiny. However, I can vote Labour Local, when the candidate tells me that she and many younger Labour supporters want JC gone.

I always say that a vote for Scottish matters, is a vote that concerns the people of Scotland and no one else. Having Scots family and friends makes me believe that. But I can’t believe that the Sturgeon Effect will last much longer.

I really enjoyed tearing down the BNP guy, who inevitably resorted to foul language. Fascist Dimwits are much easier to cope with, than ordinary dimwits!

My gt-nephew in the Frozen North (way up past Aberdeen) is a Northern Scot born and bred, and very patriotic. He tells me that he and his mates are sick and tired of Sturgeon’s ranting. He voted to leave in the first Scots referendum, but now he has changed his mind, and says that many more have done the same. They are worried about the amount of money that the SNP want to spend, against the amount that they would collect in taxes. As he followed his dad into the oil industry supply business, and has his own company, he has a finger on the pulse of Scottish business. He says that many major oil companies are worried about possible Scottish Independence, and this is filtering down.

I believe that another Scottish Independence vote would result in an increase of No voters. Where would Tartan Knickers go then?

                              +1 to all that Dave.

I wonder what will happen when the next generation of voters reach the point where events have deteriorated enough for them to decide they have no alternative but to do something about it all. When the major party of opposition is so divided amongst themselves that they cannot provide a realistic plan, and the Union appears to be fragmenting, I really fear for the future.

It is entirely possible that this election will result in a Tory landslide and further austerity. I think UKIP will be buried, Labour already has several MP’s who will not stand. The only serious Opposition could well turn out to be a mix of SNP and Liberal democrats. The Mother of Parliaments has become a pantomime.

Glad to say we in the Senior Ghetto do not appear to need cameras. We had one “prowler” last week who made the mistake of ‘prowling’ around the Close at around 1:30 am. His problem was that many of us cannot sleep well (not me) and there were several Oldphart Mafia soldiers still up. They rang each other, rang the police, advised them to leave off the bells and whistles. One unsuspecting dog walker, another village insomniac, almost ended up in the pokey. Surprising that the police took only about 5 minutes to get here though, they must have been in the area. Lincolnshire is not known for good police coverage: not their fault, manpower has been cut to the bone and it’s the second largest county, with poor roads and villages often some distance apart.

He will take another route next time he wants to walk the dog after dark, I expect.  🙂

Apparently the problem has been splashing about in the mud for years, perhaps as far back as 2005 without anyone taking action.

No Lee you are not politically ignorant. That one made me think: she has seen how hated T.B.Liar is, due to his military adventures. Maybe she wants a comeback to the wreckage later with a “Told you so.” Or maybe she has had just enough time in the Hot Seat to qualify for a few remunerative Consultancies, Directorships and speaking tours…

My own feeling is that she and her Party have seen the Polls and believe that they may never have a better chance of another win, with a significantly large majority government. Someone should point out to her that Polls are often unreliably inaccurate.

Louis, I think Corbyn’s bus left a long time ago. My grandfather was a founder member of the original Independent Labour Party at the turn of the 19th century. My big brother was a Labour Councillor and an NUM delegate. I grew up steeped in Socialist history and Class Struggle. That convinced me of two facts: Socialism does not pass the “Screw you Jack, I’m allright” test, and both relatives mentioned, took part in events which time has left in the dust.

I live in a newly-created District Council area now called Louth South. The DC map has been redrawn to lump all villages south of Louth, into the Town area. Lots of different flyers have been shoved through our letterbox, but only the prospective Labour candidate has bothered to knock on the door and speak to us. Quite apart from the fact that she is an attractive young blonde, she speaks well, does not like Corbyn, and is a truly local lass with children and a home in the village, where she grew up. I shall vote for her in the Locals, because I do not vote for a candidate along Party lines: local councillors should be just that – local. I have known her for some time, but a political discussion with her was an education. She has independent ideas.

When it comes to any election, local or national, what always annoys me is the person who says “I don’t vote, it makes no difference!” Yes it does, it means you have no right to complain about anything done by the government/council which takes office. Millions of people suffered and died for centuries, until the country evolved a democracy. That’s another reason why Labour will not be elected: too many people who you would think should be Labour voters, cba to go to the Polling Station.

EDIT: how many Bonus Points, Doc?

Many thanks Tippon, sorted that. Addition to Richard’s warning: mistake can be made if you do not type “about:config” in the LOCATION bar. (the bar directly underneath the Firefox tab.)

I picked that up by reading your comment Richard, which made me think, thanks.

Situation outcome depends upon whatever action China takes. If the Trumper thinks that action will be in concert with the USA, or even taking the USA into account, he is kidding himself again. The Chinese will take whatever action that suits their purposes: if that means cooperating with the USA temporarily, that is what they will do. But China has always taken the long view, and always will.
