I made the preceeding post before this came out today:     http://tinyurl.com/yb7ldxl6

He has been sacked, or rather pushed out. Reading all of the BBC report and the FA Talking Heads’ various garbage-speak, there still does not appear to be a case of innapropriate behaviour to answer. Eniola Aluko did not make any allegation (about Sampson making an ‘innapropriate remark’ in 2015) until she was ” asked to participate in a cultural review of all England teams by the FA’s technical director Dan Ashworth. ” – in 2016. That was investigated and led to:

March 2017: The independent review clears Sampson and his staff of wrongdoing but it is understood that Aluko was paid £80,000 in a confidentiality agreement.

Other England Ladies players have defended the guy. He has been paid up for his contract until 2019. Mark Sampson appears more and more like a scarificial lamb. This is what the FA now says: ” Mark Sampson is absolutely clear to work as a coach in football. ”  Really? So why is he sacked?  And does the FA sacking him, not now prevent him from getting another coaching job?

What a farce. The secretive FA will never reveal their own report about this of course.

Taking your word for that Ed, but I have watched it in UHD on a mate’s Fancy 65″ monster-box and was unimpressed. Does not seem different enough to games watched in HD on my Sony Bravia Full HD 40″.

Steve highlighted another bitch about Sky from me: the “multitude” of channels. By the time I have skimmed through all the dross and repeated repeats in channel after channel, when I find something watchable it is already halfway through. Not only that, but they repeat the repeated repeats next night on the same krap channel. “You never swore at Freeview on the old TV like that,” says SWMBO….

It’s supposed to be a relaxing leisure (in)activity, ffs!

I think it might be that some female players (like Eniola Aluko) may be more “sensitive” and easily upset, than players like Jodie Taylor, who last night ran straight to Mark Sampson for a celebration hug, after scoring. I have also watched Aluko play a few times for England and noticed  that she tends to sulk if she doesn’t get the ball when she thinks she ought to have it. A very good player, but too impressed with her own place in the team.

On the other hand, as in some recent cases in the men’s game, once there is smoke, some people say they were burned some time ago. Personally, I think that Mark Sampson may have been indiscreet a few times in getting closer to the players than the PC brigade think is ‘proper’. But I don’t think he is lying: you can’t engender the kind of loyalty, team spirit and ability he has built in the England Ladies team, without being close to the squad. Most football managers create a “them and us” attitude, which brings a bunch of players together and creates a team. What makes this situation different, is that he is a guy and his players are women.

I wonder what would happen if the situation was reversed? A female manager of the England men’s team? If it’s all about diversity and equality, what would the PC pillocks think about that? It’s all about ability to coach and manage a successful squad and only Sir Alf Ramsey, has taken a senior England squad further than Mark Sampson has.

If he is found guilty of  serious misconduct, he should be punished, but it appears to me that he is being pushed out by the FA, in fear of the proven misconduct in the men’s game. That happened for decades, with lots of warnings brushed under the carpet. The FA Oldpharts ignored it and are now paying the price. Sampson may be being sacrificed in the name of ‘doing something about it’.

Hoping for a shock against Moneybags Chelsea tonight: don’t care how little possession we have, just want at least one more goal than the Blues. COYR!

Well done England Ladies, wish the men’s team were as successful. And could be called England Gentlemen! ???

I don’t pay at pump Steve! Or at least I did, until the large new “Spar” Shell station opened on the Louth industrial estate. There is no Pay At Pump facility on any of the 12 pumps, but I have a Shell Drivers Club card, which gives out points for rewards and money off fuel, so paying instore doesn’t bother me. And having read this, I will be less inclined to use my card that way anyway, although when I used to fill up at Morrisons, I used to object to people driving into a P at P pump, then pay instore, when there were pumps without card pay available.

The Spar station I use is the biggest I have ever seen, has Costa, Subway, grocery, frozen and chilled food, a small cafe. Whoever runs Spar took a good long look at the growth of Louth industrial estate and worked out how much new build was going in. County and District Councils were also on the ball: they would not give planning permission until sufficient funds were deposited in holding accounts to cover any withdrawal from building. A percentage was kept by the Council as a non-returnable deposit. But the place keeps growing; since my No 1 gson started there as a network engineer over 4 years ago, many more companies have opened up and, biggest surprise in this day and age – no closures. The Spar sells food and fuel to all these companies, and it is situated on the last roundabout out of town, heading up the A16 to Grimsby, the Humber Bridge and various docks. Trucks, holidaymakers, farmers and locals use it, it is always busy, but gradually killing off another filling station off the next roundabout, in town. The sleepy Georgian town I came to 17 years ago, is growing as well, old Victorian blocks coming down, new flats and houses building. Might even wake up some of the Oldpharts on the Town Council, who knows!

Well I don’t know what happened to TinStar last night. Watched Episode 2 that I had recorded and pixels were chasing each other across the screen about every 10 minutes or so. (did not happen with 2 other recorded prog’s) Was not impressed with the way the story is going anyway, so kicking that into touch now. How a mixed team of disreputable Brit ‘Hit men’ can be expected to fade into a Canadian background amongst oil workers and locals, is a joke I don’t get. Some characters are simply unbelievable, some ‘acting’ OTT. IMO.

Now waiting for Sky’s response, if I don’t get one by the week’s end I am ordering a Humax box and getting the LNB changed ASAP. Moved me telly down the wall, put up an IKEA shelf that is as long as the chimney breast is wide:

Just wish that the online description included the fact that 3 pairs of hands were needed to fit the damned thing! There was just me and No.2 gson, the family Heavy Lifter. After a struggle observed and commented upon by SWMBO ?? we managed to fit it absolutely spot on, checked with my builders’ spirit level. ??? Comes in 2 pieces, which have to be lined up inserted into the steel brackets at each end, then into the centre bracket, then whole assembly held up to measure screw/rawlplug holes, nervy operation! Original length is 158 cm, chimney breast 138. Measured allowing for thickness of centre bracket, there is 2mm of wall at the end of each bracket. It looks great and because the centre bracket tilts the TV stand back slightly, TV is solid  and I can access connections much more easily. I now have a Currys tilting wall mounting kit to sell on local FB site. SWMBO and I can now watch telly at eye level. Which is what I wanted when we bought the TV, but someone else wanted a wall mount…..

I haven’t used Ccleaner for at least 5 years, it was news to me that Avast had bought it. I found that I could use Windows itself to do everything that CC did, and also Kaspersky has the “More Tools” tab and functions built into that, to do more. If I find that a programme has been made redundant, I uninstall it.

Not saying that it is not a fine programme, it is. However, I used it almost from the first version and liked it until I dumped it as no longer needed.

His memory should be honoured across the world by the UN. I remember the story at the time. There were many incidents like that during Cold War days. I can recall at least 3 times during my BAOR service, when our ‘Spearhead’ 20 Armoured Brigade, headed for the Minden Gap after drawing live ammunition. Lots more NATO call-outs than that happened, but when we were issued live ammo, it was for an emergency on the borders. We never knew whether that was it: would we be heading for the last battle?

More than one reason why troops in BAOR during those days, were heavy drinkers. I was lucky, in that I knew my running and football would suffer if I drank too much, too often. I loved the sport more than the craic. But it was always there, at the back of our minds.

Problem today is that there are some regimes with nuclear weapons, who are either unpredictable, or just plain lunatics. North Korea is both.

Well I just wrote  (snailmail) to SkySubscriber Services and cancelled, after receiving a letter from them which offered a “saving” of £20.90/month. On closer reading, it was an increase of £14.70. This was how it was presented and how I worked it out,  amounts are per month:

*Box Sets increase from £10 to £17.90.

*Payment due date 26/10/2017, last date of current contract: Total = £49.39 (includes Phone/Bband/line/anytime calls)

*”Future Bill” Payment due date 26/10/2017: Total = £64.09.

*Increase — (£64.09) – (£49.39) = £14.70. If someone can successfully explain that to me as a “saving” I will eat the Q-Box I will be soon returning!

Going to record all “Tin Star” and binge-watch. I also have a NOWTV box with passes, never used. Getting a Humax box and changing the dish LNB, then I should have Freesat and sufficient choice. Cannot shake off the bemusement at being presented with a saving on next payments, which is actually an increase. And they give a start date and an end date, after also saying “…with no new contract.” Do they believe we are all stupid? I told them I see it as an insult to my intelligence.

Pie in the Sky. Think you were right, BL: Sky is about to hit the buffers. If Senior Murkydag’s plan to buy back works, it will just get worse.

I am envious of all you guys who grew up with the original computers, learning how to use code on the way. I did not use a computer until my late 50’s, and have often wished that I had taken time out to see what it was all about.

However, I was busy doing all kinds of other stuff and having some (often heavy) life experiences on the way. No point in regrets I guess, and I have learned a heck of a lot since that first beige box, with a Cyrix 586 and a whole 8MB of memory! Then I bought better bits and built a better PC, using these as well as floppies, remember them? –

I had 10 of them, then read about the “Click of Death” and formatted them, sold them, bought a bigger Hdd (whole 8GB!) I carried on learning, building and picking up so much from MM and the forum, still learning and getting help from all the good voices here. I just wish I had learned from the ‘bottom up’ but life is what it is I guess.

When was in Germany, my closest big team was Dortmund, just a few K’s down the B1. I began going to see them and, when not playing myself, I would see as many home games as I could. I became a supporter, except when on leave in the UK during the Season, when I would return to the City Ground and resume my lifelong support for Forest. (Now 65 years this year) So I became a part of ‘Die Gelbe Wand‘ in the Westfallenstadion, the Yellow Wall. Always fanatical in their support, Dortmunders were fair to all other teams in the Bundesliga, but did not like Köln at all: their supporters were considered to be among the worst-behaved in the Bundesliga even then. Not violent in the mass apart from a few nutters, most German fans are well-behaved, just noisier than you might expect. I have been back to the Westfallenstadion a few times since, and the noise from 90,000 (yes, 90,000!) passionate Germans has to be heard to be believed. They love their football in Germany! Supporters come from all over the Rühr to watch Dortmund play.

But the sight and sound of 20,000 Germans marching and singing through London, must have had Sir Winston spinning in his grave. ??? I thought (just for a moment!) of being in an upper window of Oxford Street, with my old L42A1 ‘scoped rifle and a box of 7.62mm rounds… the flares would have backlit them.

There are conflicting reports of trouble, mostly caused by Köln fans having bought tickets from touts and then moving into Home fans’ areas. The touts will have bought their tickets from Arsenal fans of course, which has made my North London mate Brian and his family very angry. There is talk of any Arsenal fan proved to have sold a ticket in this way, to be banned from the ground. There was a great deal of fear reported amongst Arsenal fans, especially with children, in the midst of Köln fans. There are also reports that Stewards were inneffective and not in control, also apparently Arsène Wenger asked for the game to be postponed before kick off, but was refused. There is to be a UEFA and possibly FIFA investigation.

The Beautiful Game is suffering once again, although I never expected trouble from German supporters. I am not an Arsenal fan, but I hope they follow up that 3-1 win at home, with a total stuffing of Köln on their own Ground. It has been said that Köln have had a bad time, being relegated and out of Europe for many years. Personally, I hope they are again relegated at the end of this season.

I looked at the Kadjar 1.5 diesel, but the Motability deposit was way above the limit I set as affordable: lowest spec 1.5 was £1,295. That’s almost £400 more than I paid for a 1.7 Tucson with more PS and easier access/exit. Renault would not give me any extras (which admittedly, most Motability dealers won’t) Hyundai gave me genuine Tucson model boot liner, rubber and carpet mats. Boot liner came in handy last week when a grandbrat spilled something in there.

The Tucson diesel is not Turbo, but the Hyundai very high compression diesel engine. It certainly accelerates very well and I cannot tell any difference from the 2.0 Turbo C-Max I used to have. I only boot it when needed to accelerate for tractors, bike racers or B****y caravans, usually just use the massive torque to gradually pull away: good for mpg. Getting between 45 and 55 mpg, depending on journey. I can drive 500 miles in one week, never less than 150 in others. Problem now is that SWMBO’s hip has just completely fell apart since we bought it: just a couple of months ago, she could get in and out easily. Now I have had to buy a step to get her in. If my spine & legs were OK I would consider throwing her in! ?? She is waiting for a new hip, consultant says 3 months.

It’s a Given that a larger capacity engine in a medium size or small car, is more economical than a smaller capacity engine would be, driven over mixed terrain and same mixed – duration journeys. Both cars must be in same states of tune and regularly maintained, same fuel. (No additives)

The larger engine is not working as hard as the smaller in the same body, same load. Smaller engine will be making higher RPM under same load. Higher RPM = more fuel consumption. There is no escaping that. Which is why I cannot believe all the claims from Ford about those “eco” 1 litre engines.

Choice of car/engine really depends upon your motoring requirements. Get it right, you get the best combination of MPG/performance/journey comfort. Get it wrong, you will be wishing to part-ex if you can. Sounds like you made a good choice, Nolan.?

My brain has gone into Fantasy Mode… Imagine a date – guy takes a girl home from the pub/club , says he wants a Threesome: “I’ll just open the wardrobe and switch her on. You’re gonna love this.”

There’s a naughty film in there somewhere.

                                          A powerful imagination is a trial sometimes… ?

Hope you weren’t excited, Keith. ?

This is not just weird, it’s way out in sexual fantasyland. There is no substitute for a real live woman, doesn’t matter how realistic they make these things. Which is what they are – things. The people making them are already well into deviancy IMO, they will probably make big money from other deviants. Their biggest problem is that there are 66 muscles and untold different expressions, to the average human face. Replicating that will be impossible with current technology.

Maybe they could give them to convicted paedophiles, who will have no excuse then for their twisted behaviour. Make them capable of giving electric shocks at random intervals. Aversion therapy?
