I'm out.SWMBO is completely lost in Call The Midwife atm, never misses it. That’s when I disappear into the spare room and the desktop. I love mostly drama, good cop stuff like Shetland (it’s different to the rest) Strike, Collateral and line of Duty. Documentaries, Wildlife, History. And any film with Jason Statham, except The Expendables, because Stallone is in it and kills it. I must have watched Hummingbird about 6 times now.
The only show like a soap that I ever liked was Last of the Summer Wine and I can still watch old episodes now. Enders is full of moaning murderers and broken marriages, Corrie I have no clue about and Emmerdale I have not watched since it was just a Farm.
Lee, I’m blathering again, move it if you want!???

I'm out.It was the smart alec US accents that turned me off.
I remake a usb stick and upgrade it for myself every month, with 5 different Malware, Adware, Rootkit and AV scanners. Not had to use it for a long time, but I keep it upgraded and updated, for the few friends who occasionally screw up their systems. It’s easy to use it and show them what they did wrong: I don’t do anything but kill the nasties and advise them what to do next themselves. Bitter experience has taught me not to go further. Have not been asked for some time now, thankfully.
If an OSSS* like myself can make a stick like that, anyone with a little knowledge can.
*Oldphart Senior Silver Surfer: a label given by one of youngest gson’s mates. Obviously I am not as ‘down with the kids’ as I had believed.??

I'm out.Every time the Trumper sacks someone, it demonstrates the classic Megalomaniac’s error: this person is intelligent/efficient/very good at his/her job. They must be dangerous – remove them immediately.
He will not be content until all the sheep in his fold are sheepish and controlled. Megalomaniacs hate individuality, people more intelligent and efficient than themselves. That’s probably 90% of the human race, Donald.
I have an idea for when he comes to London and parades down the Mall in the Royal Coach. Everyone who can attend should line the route in thousands. As the coach passes, everyone turn their backs. No protests, no screaming and shouting, just silent and very pointed disapproval. What is more British than that? Hard luck on Her Maj if she is aboard, but I am sure she probably feels the same about the idiot, if truth were known.

I'm out.He did give much more VFM than other comedians and entertainers Wasbit, you’re right. Doddy’s problem was that he could not get HMRC to understand that he thought he should keep all of the money he gave so much value for!

I'm out.It creates a horrible sinking feeling that the planet may be irretrievably screwed up. How can something like this happen to such a beautiful spot? Then I consider that I live in an area that has an organisation responsible for ensuring that most of the water and effluents from East Midlands rivers, streams, dykes and ditches, drains to the sea as fast as possible:
At this time of the year, the work of the Lindsey Drainage Board is very important. This (Eastern) side of the Wolds is currently edging towards an overflow. Our local chalk streams are in full flow, there is a lot of standing water across roads and fields. We have some massive dykes as the land gets closer to the sea, some are actually dual dykes, they look like two large rivers running parallel, separated by about 25 feet of land. If those back up, East Lindsey is in trouble. All of this discharge must of course be full of microplastics. If we cannot do something about this now, there may be some aquatic life extinctions.

I'm out.A Sunday walk around Louth town:
Ignore the audio, or turn it off: I don’t know the guy who made it, but he mumbles all the way through it.
I can’t find a YT during a Market day, but the scenes showing all the Estate Agencies are where it is held: the Cornmarket. Wednesdays are the biggest and best Market days. On a sunny Wednesday it is packed.

I'm out.Forest managed a 0-0 draw against rivals Derby, which in view of performaces before Aitor became manager, is a good result. Family back in Notts say that it was great game, end to end stuff. Our defence is not leaking goals anymore, which is a bonus. Niece says that we almost scored in the last minute of injury time, then said that would have been hard on Derby. For a lifelong Forest fan to say that, is something. I think she’s getting old! (7 years younger than me)
Totally agree with what you say about VVD, should have been marking Lukaku and would not have been bullied by him as Lovren was. Sometimes I think Klop makes a wrong decision and can’t see it as wrong. A very emotional guy about his football, reminds me of Shankly, although he was just as committed to the cause, he was cooler about it. But I love to see Klop running up and down the touchline, the guy looks bonkers to a neutral, but the fans know it means he cares. Jose sees football management as a succession of careers that are making him lots of money. How much money do you think Chelsea would have to offer him? Or Barca? PSG? He would be off like a shot, given enough.
I think it’s funny that a German manager is the emotional one, whilst a “Latino” Portugese is the calculating, businesslike, self-centred guy.

I'm out. That’s an eye-opener Ed! You have a habit of producing some “interesting” stuff.
Steve, I don’t have Netflix yet, but found this Review and it is intriguing. I’ll visit daughter’s house and use her Netflix while family are at work and school. She has some lovely biscuits…

I'm out.Louth town centre is a “compact” town, that is an ancient place with narrow streets, originally made for horses and horse-drawn vehicles, also well below sea level. This causes problems from flooding by the River Lud at the lowest point, to housing: old buildings are currently being either torn down, or completely rebuilt, into apartments and flats. This is to provide homes for an expanding population, there is a lot of modern industry coming into the area and those who are coming here for jobs, have to have somewhere to live. Housing on the higher outskirts, is becoming more expensive.
This means that many of the flats and apartments in the centre, are in blocks with gated or barriered access to their own car parking. The barriers are either “spring up” mechanisms, accessed by a recessed locked plate, or “fold-down” ones, locked down for exit and locked in the upright position to prevent illegal use. Surely a derivative from one of these options would be a much better solution?
IMO, the best security is provided by educating Joe Public into awareness. The message should be dinned into all of us, by media ads and posters, to be aware that we are in what is tantamount to a war situation. There are people who want to maim and kill as many of us as possible and their weapon of choice is currently a vehicle, preferably a heavy one. Possibly accompanied by explosives. The attitude of “It cannot happen here” is wrong: it can. There are so many different groups that wish to cause harm in the name of their Cause, add to those the simply bonkers groups who have convinced and deluded themselves that society is doing something, or allowing something to be done, that they don’t like.
No. I’m not paranoid, I’m being realistic.

I'm out.As a very young soldier, in a sudden rush of blood to the head and a hole in the wallet, I volunteered for a short stay at Porton Down. I still have no idea what was inflicted upon me in the name of “combatting the cold virus”. It was put to those of us who volunteered, that the eggheads were trying to ameliorate the loss of duty hours among Service personnel, by Sick Days. I felt no adverse after effects, but I was young and naive, as were all my fellow volunteers. We were well rewarded, btw.
Strangely (or not) despite some of the situations I had experienced in 12 years of service, the only episode of Service experience that I was warned about under the OSA, was Porton Down. I was warned not to speak about the location, which is the dumbest thing I was ever told: the whole world knows it. You could not make it up: the MOD is only careless with the genuinely important stuff.

I'm out.The comments regarding the mess that is the Middle East are largely correct Richard. However, the fact that the USA always ignores, is that their drive to cure what they saw as British Colonialism, resulted in that mess. The USA was instrumental in having British forces and influence removed from many places far too soon. Nowhere did this have worse repercussions than in Aden, where there is now a terrible proxy war being fought between the Saudis and Iran, with various others joining in one form or another. In the middle is Syria, a well-chewed bone that has not yet experienced the worst that can happen, I fear.
The UK, USA, France, Russia and others are engaged in active weapons-testing, by selling arms to all sides.
I really miss the Cold War, sometimes…

I'm out.Not sure if I am legally correct in this, but puncturing someone’s tyres is actually Criminal Damage and only legal when used by police forces, trying to stop a lawbreaking driver. In other circumstances, it would need legislation enacted for, say, a Council Highways Department to fit these things. That would be very difficult to achieve, as the organisation trying to get the law changed would have to show sufficient cause. We all know how hard it is to get facilities like traffic lights and Traffic Calming measures, until at least half a dozen fatalities have been experienced. TBH, I would much rather Highways sorted out the potholes and rugged surface of a road I regularly drive in Louth. The patches that have been applied to some of the potholes, are seriously worse than were the potholes.
I do get really angry with drivers who park with half their cars onto a pavement. In Louth town this was a problem until Parking Wardens were employed. It’s a Georgian town with narrow streets and very narrow pavements: two people walking abreast cannot be passed without walking into the road and the traffic. Which brings me to another activity that annoys me: groups of four or more people who block the pavement by having a conversation across the pavement and standing in the way of others. Add to that, the Buggy Brigade, who wheel their offspring about in vehicles the size of small cars, two abreast, often while on the phone. The town is definitely not Disabled-friendly. And don’t get me started on pedestrians who decide to cross the road behind my car, when I am waiting for the pedestrians with more than half a brain to cross the “zebra” in front of my car.
It’s not a good day for me today, as you have probably guessed…??

I'm out.Steve, it was Lukaku who did a lot of damage, terrorised the Liverpool defence. They just couldn’t handle him. Makes it worse him being an ex-Evertonian I guess. This United team seems to play better away from 76,000 critics at Old Trafford. My nephew the Man U ‘supporter’ has stopped travelling to watch them at home, says the atmosphere is sometimes stupidly quiet.
I love the pic I found in the first post. Scousers can always see the joke better than anyone else can.

I'm out. It’s Forest vs. Derby tomorrow, a derby game that is more like a war. Both clubs have issued warnings against violent behaviour and as usual there is a minority who will not listen. Anyone who thinks that Mancs vs. Scousers is bad, has seen nothing like these games, there have been murders committed. The cities are just a short distance apart along the A52, there are people working at Nottingham places who are Rams and Forest supporters in Derby businesses. They usually pull a Sickie on Monday after a game.

I'm out.I really do not understand who would “win from the incident” Ed. The CNN assumption here* is that some form of organised Russian crime, or some ex FSB figure(s) affected by the defector, are responsible.
*It is also an assumption that Putin is behind it. Since he is of course ex-FSB himself, that is just as reasonable an assumption as any.
The whole double agent philosophy of these Russian defectors, is one of self-interest. Why should a Russian defector to the USA, decide to live in the UK anyway? This is a messy, murky affair. And “Putin loves Europe”? That one really amuses me, whoever wrote the CNN script is obviously pro-Russian, and it is a long way from a balanced view. Putin is a dangerous, power-fixated megalomaniac who wants a return to what he sees as the glory days of the Soviet Socialist Republics, even as he takes a decidedly right wing stance. He blames and hates the West for bringing down Communism and the end of Soviet rule across so much of Europe. He wants it back, beginning with the nations so recently freed from domination, such as Ukraine.
