Yeah agreed. If I needed to move now would be very tempted. The “G”s are always great value.
Looks nice – very nice. Not long moved to a G7 Power which I love – I think the next one will have to be 5G-ready. Couldn’t see if the 8 is or not?
Yes – hope all is well for them both. And good on you Bob for noticing and following up mate.
I just listened to an interview on the radio with a journalist who was asked to try out the new (radically new) running shoes used by this athlete. He took three minutes off the time off his regular 12 km run time and said running had never felt easier. The shoes are apparently elevated at the front and are uncomfortable to walk in but a dream to run in. The material and technology is wrapped up tight in patents by Nike – who have been mentioned in dispatches during the recent discussions on athletics and “performance enhancement”.
I’m sure the shoes are completely legal for now – but like those funny swim suits may end up getting banned or at least restricted
Sadly the whole sport is tainted for me. and I view everything with suspicion which is a shame for the clean athletes – but I just don’t see it as s credible sport anymore.
You’re welcome BL. I left Sky over a year ago now, don’t miss it but am becoming a bit fed up with Freesat, for many of the same reasons I left Sky: too many useless channels and far too many repeats. I am going to Fire TV very soon and may go Licence free altogether eventually. Dealing with Humax emails atm, trying to get them to understand that their cure for losing one tuner (factory reset) means losing saved HD programmes, which cannot be saved. If they find a way for me to record these saved prog’s to an external source, I will pass it on. I don’t think they will do that though.
Yeah there’s not enough free telly to fill the schedules. My STB has FreeSat and FreeView tuners so I get a few more channels to choose from. Also have Sky Go Extra on the Xbox (which was bought as a DVD/Blu-Ray Player) – thanks Mum! That gives us a the lion’s share of Sky but I don’t find myself using it much. I share Netflix account with three others which makes it very cheap (especially if you sign up in Turkey!), and have Amazon courtesy of Prime. I don’t actually watch an awful lot of TV, but the rest of the tribe do and are happy enough with the variety. A lot of people I know are less than impressed with Sky in the “Q” era and have let it go.
Thanks Bob – had to get a new aerial fitted not long back after some of the changes to Freeview HD. I rely on freeview and freesat mainly but have me mus sky go a for other stuff – that I rarely watch – and wouldn’t cry it it went away. I’ll keep an eye on it all mate and see what happens.
I seem to be AOK on Three and not noticed anything nor my youngest – had a google though and a lot appear to be affected.
Congratulations – I went to the USA (Colorado, Utah, Nevada) in 2016 on Three and my then S5 was AOK. Buying a SIM there is not easy – there is not really an equivalent to PAYG here, so if you can confirm a working phone and plan before you go that is the best bet I reckon.
Thanks Dave – that’s really useful. My lad has his but not set up as he has not fully moved yet (leases overlap). He’ll be in a tiny central London studio flat so if it works “OK” I think it will be OK everywhere – I’ll report back once he’s set up. Thinking down the road assume there shouldn’t be an issue using the SIM in an unlocked modem like the one you linked? Thanks again.
PM very possibly mate – prices “harmonise” so they can all still tuck in. It definitely seems to be an interesting option though – and given the infrastructure overheads are (probably?) less I live in hope 🙂
Hmmm that looks nice – I’m hoping by the time I (maybe) do it the 5G situation will be more clear. Suppose the advantage of “modem mode” is that you can swap that bit out as mobile technology advances and keep your home network undisturbed behind it. This is a very interesting topic and I wonder the impact it may have on conventional broadband.
Cheers Dave – I’ve a little while to run on my Vodafone BB deal (which to be fair has been rock solid). By then there might be some more options. Nosing on my Asus router I think the “APvMode” won’t do as it would kill a lot of the router functions (which defeats the point). By the time I’m looking I guess there’ll be more options. A mobile router in “modem” would be the best option for me, just replaces the Openreach modem that I’m (still!) using. Thanks for the info.
No problem Dave – I assume the Three/Huawei router uses a dongle for the SIM? – if so do you reckon that dongle could be used with your own mobile-capable router? I have the Asus RT-AC-87U which I love and would be loathe to lose – it is mobile capable via the USB port (and a dongle). I suppose I can always try my boys one once he has it but he is a train ride away!
EDIT: just read your “modem mode” comment which could be plan B, and “Access Point Mode” on my router could be Plan C.
my eldest just pulled the trigger on this – the deal (for existing Three customers) asked for a Three mobile to get the deal – he used mine but there was no verification and he went on and did it all with his own details for £16/month instead of £21 (and tax-deductable as he’s self employed. So if anyone is tempted, looks like any “Three” number can be used to get the deal which tome suggests they are not that fussed who gets it. Will update once he has it up and running.
Click on “Mobile Broadband” at the top right on this link if you are interested:
Only reason I’d avoid Chromebooks for study is that MS Office is still the standard/assumed office suite (or at least was when my two went through university). A snappy Windows laptop will do everything a student needs – a Chromebook may not.
+1 for Dave’s suggestion – bought one on his recommendation a while back – really pleased with it. I’ve pimped mine a bit but even out of the box a very nice bit of kit.
bit late but Happy Birthday!
Cheers Dave – will definitely be looking down this road myself when my current Vodafone BB deal runs out in about 10 months. I think the 30 day cooling off still applies which is long enough to know if it cuts the mustard.
My eldest is moving digs and asked me about broadband – he’s been sharing a house so just paying a share of the broadband that was already there. He’s moving in to a studio on his own and this looks like a good deal for him. I have found out that as a three (mobile) customer I think he can do it through me and a get their cheaper router for £16/month for unlimited data. Tempted to steer him this way – any reason I shouldn’t? He’s on a year lease but I assume he just takes this with him if he moves within 2 years? Ta.
Happy Birthday mate!
