Fair enough but I think if you drive to any city – park up and use your feet of public transport (definitely applied here in greater London). I know what you mean about Tiger Bay – a bit sterile. Went to Swansea after a long gap two years ago and found that a pleasant spot as well. I believe the Welsh are the most authentc “Britons” as that is where we all legged it when we kept getting invaded! In any case I like Wales – especially South Wales.
How many of the false IDs were where the wetware had failed to update the log of wanted persons? The last time I read a review of data, which was a while ago, people who had either been arrested or recently cleared were not a high priority for removal from the manual lists so the automatic hardware kept finding matches for them. I have neither the desire or capacity to visit Cardiff; it is just another big city with crowds and traffic and damn all else to say about the matter. The traffic was horrible years back so another good reason to avoid the city
I love Cardiff Richard – great City. Lots of the centre is pedestrianised (so no traffic), lots of places to eat, drink and be merry. I’m not a fan of crowds but as cities go Cardiff is one of my favourite in the UK.
Ryanair I avoid wheever possible – if I have to fly with them (do in a couple of weeks) I double check everything. Their seats are horrible (bolt upright and hard as nails) and they charge you for EVERYTHING. Currency conversion is a racket – I’ve been stung so have a lot of symapthy.
Done two X220s PM – all OK. Nuke is never a bad thing….in fact its a good thing….got to do it ont he PC my youngest has his piano (MIDI) hooked up to….as it won’t update (for a few months)……got to remember where all the disks and licences are for the music software. Then one of those cheap SSDs is going in.
Cheers Dave that looks the business – will download and give it a spin
EDIT: Blimey – superb, only scratched the surface but this will be going on everything – ta!
Gone OK – got an old Windows tablet (one of the cheapies with 32GB storage) that I don’t use but tried the update, had to connect a USB flash drive via OTG as there wasn’t enough free space – but all went through OK. Not found anything useful (to me) in the new build.
From distant memory I think they have normal guest access (what Dave mentioned) and then the “FON” feature which is opt in (or maybe opt out) – which creates the huge WiFi network by letting you use a portion of other “FON” users WiFi (and vice versa) – the hotspots used to show up as “BT Openzone FON” or soemthing like that. I never used it as it never seemed a very secure concept (in principle).
Dave the old town in Bratislava is lovely. I bet you won’t have the problems we did (World Cup qualifier 2002 I think). First night was great – till the end when two of our blokes got shot! One (Man City Fan) was in our hotel (shot throught the leg). They shut all the pubs the next day (match day) and the only place you could get a beer was Tescos (which had a cafe/bar). The City fan stayed in the hotel lobby all bandaged up (luckily “clean” thigh wound) and everyone gave him some tinnies on the way back from Tescos. He still went to the game and we won 2-1 (Michael Owen).
TC if you mean the post about the aerial here iit is:
https://forumite.co.uk/forums/topic/freeview-retune-new-aerial/
Regards the value of the Sky box – not much. When I binned Sky I got £25 for my 1TB 895 box and a tenner for the 500GB Samsung box. I imagine as Sky push out Q-only now the value would be even less.
As a freeview recorder they are pretty worthless as Sky kill the recording capabilities once you no longer have an active sub (petty and stupid). I think you have to pay a tenner a month to keep the “plus” features which means within a few months you could have paid for a new freesat receiver. The Sky boxes (pre Q at least) are also very power hungry even in standby.
I think you need to confirm whether your current aerial is up to supporting all the Freeview channels. If is is then a Freeview Play or YouView (2 flavours of the best catchup service) is the best way to go. If not then you’d have the option of either a new aerial (assuming that your neighbours can get all the channels and you are not in a blackspot) or a new satellite dish and a FreeSat STB. The satellite equivalent of Freeview Play/YouView is called “FreeTime HD” and this box appears to be the daddy.
Depending on where the dish would be fitted it might be slightly cheaper than a new aerial (if its lower) – and you would want one with a “universal” LNB – at least a 4 port (quad) or an 8 port (octo) – both very cheap. For a satellite dish you’ll need (like Sky) two cables from dish/LNB to the STB. If its an aerial then only one. DIY can save you loads, I’ve done plenty of dishes (normally on the/side/front/back of a house) but not great with heights so paid someone to do the aerial.
Just took a a czech bud keg to a friends. It’s very nice indeed, dispite our poor pouring form. Lol BL the euro beers catch you out that way. You can’t sup them like we do carling etc… The sun doesn’t help either
Duke I keep learning that and then keep forgetting again 🙂
Got caught out like that in Bratislava years back – working our way through the local beers then ending up trollied – they were all 8% ish and never tasted that way at all.
I visited the Corfu brewery a few years back, micro-brewery in the North West of the Island (owned and run by locals) – they make a nice bitter and a couple of nice lagers. An Moscow was beer-crazy, loads of nice beers but like many places now a lot of poncey craft beers that are not particularly nice. And like the states they insist on keeping a dark IPA as cold as a lager which kills the flavour a bit.
A picture speaks a thousand words Dave!
I like the Dunkel dark beers in Germany Austria and I suppose technically the Irish Republic is oversees so a shout for the best pint of Guiness in the world at the Gravediggers (aka the Kavanagh) in Dublin.
Beers galore all over the place now, I draw the line at the Blue Moon wheat beer I had in the states that came with a big slice of Orange in it. Too far.
My work ipad has a vodfone SIM and speedtest reports 26.7 down and 3.94 up – and its telling me its 3G….can that be right (thought 3G topped out around 20) ? My own phone is on Three and reports 4G with 21.3 down and 33.44 up at the same place. Three goes much faster about a mile up the road (>30 and sometimes >40)
Bob you’ll get there mate….don’t worry about that. On the TV – I’m running Linux STB with one FreeSat and one Freeview tuner – plus all the goodies the internet has to offer. Catch up lets id down (BBC and ITV, no C4 or C5) but the new Telly handles that.
I found the model of the YouView receiver I’ve lent out – BT YouView DTR-4000. Its re-badged Hunax apparently – dual Freeview HD tuners, 1TB HDD, Netflix, NowTV etc and 4K capable (although not much 4K you can watch). When I was using it I was very impresed with it. There may be better versions now, but that one ges around £70 – £90 on ebay (the BT branding doesn’t stop anything working on a different provider).
Youview or freeview play is a nice way to do catchup. My new telly has Youview built in, so for catch up you just scroll backwards in the planner and press play (it then plays the program via the relevant catchup up app). I think Freeview Play is similar. Its much easier than going in and out of individual catchup apps (although you can still do that if you want). You can get STBs that do the same – I’ve got a BT youview box that supports the 7 day catchup (by going backwards in the guide) and also supports netflix and nowtv. Cant remember the model as I’ve lent it to someone – but was about 80 quid on ebay.
I have a few series links set on my STB, it beats ITV and C4 catchup a you can skip the ads. So I’m probably 70% cacthup and 30% recording.
I did a thread recently as I had to upgrade my aerial (lost some HD channels after a change in lineup). Worth checking if anything similar has happened in your area.
Bob you have survived military service and Nottingham Forest – this will be a doddle – keep fighting mate and wish you back to full health as soon as possible.
They also have the 240GB P Series 5 version for £49.95 – use code VC5 to reduce that to £47.45 Click
Boris are you trying to skint me ! Must resist….must resist….
Did an SSD in my Mum’s HP laptop – an i5 – 19″ job, maybe a little older. Fiddly but the online service manual was pretty good. The spinner went in an caddy in the DVD drive. Absolute chalk and cheese in terms of speed/experience. Great upgrade at this price, and its less of an issue that she likes to turn it off if she hasn’t used it for more than 30 seconds!
Nice one Boris – grabbed another
They might as well have called it West Ham…..shocking year for me…cracking bit of Rock and chips at Southend took the edge off..but betting-wise I’m under a curse at the moment.
