The wife’s been watching it and I’ve just been listening to the American preacher and the Gospel choir and this image of John Belushi doing handstand cartwheels down the aisle of Windsor Chapel kept flashing through my mind!!! The wife thought I was mad for laughing at that tender moment. Someone should also tell Camilla to hide her face behind a hand because her bemused look was just too much!!:)
You are not alone mate – watched it in a pub garden yesterday and several people said “Blues Brothers” at that point. I really enjoyed it overall – great spectacle.
Dwynehugh love everyone on here but agree there was no need to pull your comment out…..innocent and no different to what me and others have posted on different threads. Let’s just get back to “as we were”.
And Duke it is a fantastic country to explore and agree 100% football ain’t the right time.
It’s a fair point….I’m as guilty as most when threads go off at a tangent….but to be fair some of the best posts are ones that go wonky.
Belgium seem a bit like Holland used to be where the sum ends up being less than the parts.
Germany won the Euros in England, if they win the world cup in Russia would just leave the USA!
Germany will win in my opinion. Not the “best” team on paper but know how to win. Get right on my thru’pennies but think they will. You never know – 1990 we stumbled on a team due to luck/injuries that took us to within a whisker – but I think last 16 or QF at best for us. Ze Germans will win I fear.
Meanwhile, back on the pitch…….
I’m quite happy nobody expects too much and it is all bit under the radar. Hart is out (feel for him a bit but he’s been throwing them in for two year), No Wishere – slight surprise (I’d have picked him). i think we have a “get out of the group but not much else” team. Love to be proved wrong…..don’t expect to be.
I don’t know if 2h is available around mine. I searched for Morrisons foods, and they all appear, but at least the view Amazon gives me, (could be cos of my location) it’s just padding out pantry. As if you select an item it just goes in your ‘pantry box’ . It may bring amazon’s food prices down, (or not) as I found them very expensive when we tried it out on first launch. Though still it would be my 3rd choice was to by foods. 1. Being go the store, second direct online, then I assume this. This being last, as I just don’t like the way pantry works. Though I could be talking crap, as they may of changed it for the better over the last year or so. Edit, no, pantry is the same as it was, and morrisons is just padding the stock. Also no 2h delivery for me. Even worse, I have to order before 3pm for next day delivery and they want paying £3 for the first “box” and 99p for each box there after. I’m sure tesco is free. Morrisons probably also.
Can’t see anyway to get the 2 hour thing here either – as duke can see Morrisons items in Pantry but not special Morrisons section and no hint at 2 hour delivery – must be location specific or I’m too dopey to find it.
Good thing is I don’t think there is any hope or expectation – anything they do (e.g. get through the group) is a bonus. My interest might pick up if we do well, but for now have given enough of my time, money, travel, safety etc to the cause – will see how it goes.
Main interest for me is our first game in Volgograd (aka Stalingrad). Been there three times and the first time I went they were building the Volgograd Arena (where we play Tunisia). The stadium is in the shadow of the giant “Motherland Calls” statue which is at the centre of the main memorial complex – and you can’t go anywhere in the city without seeing a monument, plaque or a preerved building etc. Hoping whoever does the coverage shows some footage of the monuments to the battle and perhaps a little history.
Also hoping no fans going there are dopey enough to play up or even without thinking drape a flag on a statue or monument…or drinks in the street (arrestable offence).

you took yer time ?
Be happy for your lot to win. The whole idea of wanting “English Teams” to win is a bit obsolete now since they are mainly international businesses, based in England with few (or not any) English players. However – you lot still have a few English and British players, and I’ve no axe to grind with you lot (apart from the offside goal in the 1981 league cup final and the equaliser in the 2006 FA cup final) I hope your boys do it. I’m not one to linger on the past ?
I especially don’t care for C.Ronaldo so that would be a bonus.
No colnsolation to you but I’ve never had any luck with ARC. I don’t especially need it to work but would have liked to sort it out. In my case its a Denon AV receiver and a sony TV – just won’t work and wouldn’t with the Samsung before it. Hopefully someone comes along to provide a solution but if not do you have an optical or coax audio-only option that could get you out of jail between the TV and the sound bar?
Its all over the news today about tit heads fighting over the weekend at goodwood I believe, could somewhere else though.
Yeah Ascot this weekend just gone, Goodwood weekend before. Normally not racing fans, just drunk blokes with Dutch courage. Get them at boxing a lot too now – ruins the events.
yes a great day out (I know some are opposed and fair enough). Picking a smaller course for a “normal” meeting there are som great hospitality deals too – nice sit down meal etc.
Used to do Royal Ascot every year but full of idiots now, so prefer Champions Day in October when it is a much better crowd. Loved to watch the Derby for free on Epsom Downs when what seemed like the whole of London would take the Wednesday off work and go there. Ruined it when they moved it to a Saturday. We have a little Jolly to Newmarket most years too at the end of the season.
I lose more than I win but the odd day you come with more money than you went out with – can’t beat it.
I reckon I’m a minority and although I don’t care for all the officical gossip and cemmentary – I like jolly-ups like this My local will be packed and will be a happy occasion. Nobody thinks it important, just a little bit of British pomp to lighten up life. Suspect most of you feel differemt and if so fair enough. I wish them well as I would any newly weds. Each to their own of course.
Should add all my devices have permanent (via reserved DHCP adddress) or static IP addresses – PCs, STBs, Printer, everything except phone/tablet. On the odd occasion I don’t see a device under “Network” in “File Explorer” I can always get to it with start/run then “\\192.168.1.xxx”.
This thread made me google the problem and yeah seems loads having issues after 1803 – I must be lucky(ish). Seems to be lots of different solutions and work-arounds, but these update are becoming more and more of a pain.
I’ve never used Homegroups – I just right click and share and share specific folders that I want access to/from other PCs? I’ve set up a permissions for a read-only account and a read/write one (with saved credentials on the remote PCs) – and shared the folder (s) with either or both of those users. Likewise the USB HDD hanging off my router. Pushing files round is easy and not been affected by recent updates. Am I missing something?
Blimey – no problems as such but this endless update cycle is a real chore.
Black lion I joined the buisness systems (AKA Telephone rentals) devision of Mercury in 91 and out main office was in nine elms Vauxhall. It was also the best job I have ever had and stayed that way until my devision was sold to siemens. We operated as a seperate company out of dock st for a year and then we were merged into Siemens old Baily office. Siemens decided to cut the work force and give us all cars. I got W1 and W2 post codes with a car !
Blimey – three of my mates ran the stores out of Nine Elms (JK,SB, PB) – we probably never met – but small world none the less. SB passed far too young (RIP) but JK is an old mate (his brother is my best mate) and I had a drink with him Saturday – gave me the winner of the 2000 Guineas.
I was young when I went Wembley, about 12, it was to watch the challenge cup final. At that time I’d only ever been, Anfield, Gooderson and Naughton park. All really different today (except Wooderson), and entering Wembley and there being shops, bars, and all sorts under the stands was mind blowing. We got beat but it was a good (long) day out. Though I’ve never heard anyone have anything good to say about a Wembley day out. I don’t thin the stadium was to blame, more it’s location, or rather distance from any good watering holes. As a kid, we got a couch, parked outside, then straight back on for home. But today on away trips, I like to usually get a travel lodge./premier inn, on the day of the game, drive down before it, feed, pint or three, game, then town. So I’d love to be back in Cardiff. Great day out. I’d stay two nights for a Cardiff cup final. For a Wembley trip, I’d probably stay the night before the game if at all. Wouldn’t mind a weekend in Kiev in about 3 weeks time ? just hope we don’t get embarrassed!
Duke got some great memories of old (proper) Wembley – few lively ones against the Jocks – but the game that makes me laugh the most is we played Columbia (late 80s I reckon) there was a transport strike and Wembley was empty. There was a Columbia fan who looked and dressed like Che Guevara stood silent all game on the terrace behind us. When we scored my mate just grabbed him and jumped up and down with him – and the bloke let his stern face slip in to a smile for a few seconds.
I also remember the fact that the khazis were so grim/few/far away that people just went down the terrace or the top of the stairs – you needed waders to get out dry.
I spent 6 years walking around the west end of London in the nineties when I was a service engineer for Mercury Communications. We only covered the W1 post code so the four of us had a small base in Poland St and traveled everywhere by bus, tube or foot. I was only stopped by the cops once in that time and it was to ask if I had seen someone in a photo they showed me. They already knew who I was !
Wheels mate – I used to work for them (field maintenance) – started 1986 and left 1994. Started in Dock Street (Wapping) and also worked at Southwark and Chart Street. Was a lunatic place to work for the first few years as telecoms had just been deregulated – anarchy- no health and safety – more overtime than you could do, no training and trying to park my van wherever round the City and West End – my favourite job ever.
Steve, you didn’t go M55 did you? When I was touring Wales, (usually Tenby- based), I went up or down the A470 all the way. I know Tenby is further West, but if there are problems on the A55 it is a mess.
Duke I know what you mean – done two play off finals at Cardiff – lost the first to Palace won the second vs Preston – both great days out – 2nd better of course Was in mexico in a pub full of scousers when we lost the cup final there in 2006 after our dopey Argie full back set up Stevie G instead of letting the ball run out. Was the only hammer in there but your lot looked after me after the game. Cardiff is WAY better than new Wembley. If your as old as me old Wembley is fantastic even though it was terrible – had some great daye there.
