Posting to Russia can be a nightmare. Aside from cost (generally extremely high) there are often restrictions about what you can post and to who – e.g. some items have to go to an official business address.
+ 1 for Satinwood – great on rads too.
I agree about distraction but used as a satnav/traffic monitor the phone can me used in-car safely in my opinion. I generally use Google Maps overlaid with TomTom Speed Carmeras, and the phone itself connects to the in-car stereo via bluetooth. I have the Shouter app enabled, which reads out notifications and if needs be you can pull over to respond. I’m in total agreement about the ****heads driving while checking facebook etc – but the phone does serve a purpose if used properly – and mounting it securely helps that.
As an aside I always use an air-vent mount, find it less distracting (lower height), leaves no marks and never comes loose.
Glad you are getting somewhere John – I think it is worth sticking with the bluetooth idea – all the ones I’ve had have had excellent gain on the volume side (i.e. go louder than wired) and the volume control has been fine. Worth trying yours to see if the volume works when paired with another device like a smartphone (just to eliminate the bluetooth transmitter as the cause – unlikely but worth checking). If the headphones are duff I’ve used several different Taotronics sets (Duke recommended a few years back) – sound quality and volume control been AOK (they weren’t up to gym use but fine for home/garden).
PM unless an emergency I always wait for a staffed till – hate the self-checkouts but they hate me even more and I always end up needing help. Quite often do a crack-of-dawn shop at my local big Tescos and the bloke who monitors the self-checkouts (no tills open then) sees me coming (probably groans) and then puts the checkout in some special mode that just lets me scan and bag everything with no errors. Hate, hate, hate self-checkouts…..and as an aside it is also another tier of jobs disappeared.
I listened to an interestin interview on the radio a few months back. It was a bloke being asked about a cashless society, and the probable impact on crime. On the one hand, no cash means no invisible transactions (in theory at least) – so you wonder how junkies an the like would pay for a fix, or how blokes would pay a prossie, but on the other hand he was saying crime always finds a way, and he predicted online-crime would go off the scale, and in “personal crime” ways would be found to get round the lack of a physical currency.
The other side (apart from crime) is more big brother knowing where you were and what you spent and what on. We are heading that way.
I agree we should be more practical about the need for a widdle when driving – as long as you are as discreet as possible – should be OK at roadside within reason. I think this more and more as the years click by for some reason.
Maybe a Honor 9?
Fair enough Richard I stand corrected.
EDIT: sorry PM meant to reply direct to Richard.
I think the Moto’s still get security patches which is enough for most purposes.
I didn’t see it Duke (watching the cricket) but just read a summary and I make you right – if we won in the week would only delay the inevitable against France. As you say we found our level – probably even punched a bit above our weight.
Saturday’s game is a nothing one for me – I’m sure both sides wuld rather just go home so I wouldn’t draw too much from it win or lose. They’ve already dropped the 3rd/4th play-off from the Euros and I don’t really see why they bother keeping it in the WC (aside from more tickets and TV money).
We done OK, probably slightly over-achieved but being realistic we may never get a chance like this again, where everything fell our way the way it did. Big opportunity missed – can imagine how they all feel today.
All the best for your treatment Bob. The suitcase situation is one I am familiar with!
I agree and couldn’t help feeling I was watching the winners last night…..BUT for England or Croatia, upsets happen and as a one off game whoever wins tonight will have a puncher’s chance. If we get through then patriotic betting will make the final odds quite close, but in reality France should be strong favourites.
Blimey who would buy that? Often have to scratch my head about MS. What was the last “good” thing they did? Can’t think of one myself.
Well you’ve got yer 3 point banker to kick the season off Duke!
John – the USB power lead will work with any cheap usb charger like this (you’ve probably got one lying about). On the TV muting, if you turn the volume right down using volume-down rather than mute you should lose the annoying “mute” icon on the screen.
On the volume control, are you sure the headphones don’t have a volume control, every pair (a lot!) I’ve had always do – even the tiny nano ear pieces. Sometimes the button’s are multifunction (e.g. short pres for next track, long press for volume up). Worth double checking.
Be curious to know how you get on John – you’ll have to mute the TV sound (or lower to zero) assuming you don’t want others to hear what you get through the headphones – and so not sure how you’ll control the headphone volume (unless you have headphones or an adapter with inline volume control – they are available)…….I think at least – was the case pre-Q.
I don’t think the USB ports on the Q are active John – not sure if they can be used to charge even – but Im pretty sure you can’t connect any peripherals to them. If you want to take audio out your best bet would be to use the optical out connector and then a converter – something like this. As usual recommend Amazon for easy returns in case you’re not happy. Never used one so not sure if there are any issues with audio sync – reviews seem positive though.
Completely agree about JH Bob – much better player than I had realised. I reckon/hope young Sterling will turn promise in to reality on Wednesday night. We are not the most talented collection of players but we are definitely a TEAM which gives us a fighting chance against anyone.
I know what you mean Duke. Just watched our (WHU) first pre-season friendly on the club’s facebook stream. Goes without saying we lost 3-2 to a team of Swiss part-timers. Back to earth with a bump! However now till Wednesday will get the old butterflies going again – it is definitely different though. A few houses have flags and bunting up whereas in years gone by would have been almost every house here. Expectations are low, so we have already over-achieved – anything now is a bonus. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
BS Player is very similar to MX and doesn’t need the codec pack all codec are integrated). If it doesn’t show up in your play store you can download the apk using this site. If still no joy then as suggested try an older version of one of the players. Oh and another player that I find quite capable is the one that comes with ES File Explorer
Croatia slight favourites for me on Wednesday – but we have a good shout.
Duke I can do without all the contrived stuff in the press, but there is a real, genuine feel good factor about. I watched it in a pub in Romford yesterday, walked up the market place where all the stall holders had it done up a treat – flags and bunting everywhere. People smiling and talking to strangers, really happy mood around the town.
Go on – let yourself enjoy it mate!
