Crouchie is a funny bloke Bob
“What you you have been if you hadn’t been a professional footballer?”
“A virgin”
Top bloke!
Bob if you’re happy I’m happy.
Excluding the square peg/round hole dump we are renting, I would have a little bit of caution about a “new” or redeveloped ground.
Granted nothing will be as bad as ours, but in general redevelopment is all geared toward ridding football grounds of long term fans who have been through the mill and replacing them with families (get off the train, spend money in the club shop, buy hot dogs, get on the train and go home) – plus corporates
Hope its not the case as had some great days away at Forest.
Ed I know the lounges make money but they add nothing to football in fact they detract from it as uninterested corporate types spend most of the game drinking and eating, so the seats are either empty or full of people who don’t care tuppence.
I’ve more or less accepted that football has left me behind now – but I really hope the City Ground redevelopment is a positive thing for Forest fans, and not an excuse to purge the old school fans and charge the newbies more.
Very well put mate. I have opted out of Brexit talk on here for this reason – nobody will change their mind and it just gets ugly. This is a great group and would hate to see it get ruined.
There is of course Clarkson’s film. YouTube
Thanks Ed – not seen that one – great timing!
At a bit (well OK a lot) of a tangent just finished a book on the St Nazaire Raid (blow up the dry dock, stop the Tirpitz docking there). Incredible story – would make a terrific high-budget feature film. I read a book about a German Pioneer Battalion (“Into Oblivion” by Jason Mark) who were stationed in France at the time of the raid, were called to arms and then stood down because the raid “had been repulsed”. Only to find out the boat that rammed the dock detonated a load of delayed action explosive and put the dock out of action for the rest of the war. The dock incidentally was a copy of Southampton. I’m here all week !
Cheers Bob – just grabbed the kindle version – can’t grumble for 99p – got a huge reading backlog but looking forward to this one.
Nice one Dave – grabbed one – cheers.
Dave you got a link please (Office 2016 for Windows – not 365?) Cheers.
I sub to Office 365 home. I originally did the personal-home upgrade trick (stack 4 years of personal codes and then upgrade to Home – all they years upgrade). Now I add a year code from ebay for Home (normally in the £42 – £46 region). Four of us use it – and the 1TB OneDrive each is worth it without the Office component.
I’ve also (for others) installed £2.99 versions of Office 365 – which are all still working but I’ve told people not to trust the OneDrive as if the Account goes so do your files. The £5/£6 versions of the stand-alone Office 2016 (not 365) seem to have disappeared.
Duke there are Wireless Access Points rather than routers. they can be cloud or local managed. I have to say after some teething troubles they are the mutt’s nuts. Panic over in any case.
Cheers both – got one serving my garden – have no port forwarding at all on my router except 21/22 for FTP (to the router itself) – assuming I don’t need to do anything as I have never opened that port? Ta.
One thing that annoys me with Now TV is you get 4 devices, but if you stream from a phone to a Chromecast they count that as two – even though you are only watching one instance. Regarding Sky Go – the quality has improved a lot since I first used it – and is very watchable now on a 55″ TV via the Xbox App. If you know anyone with a Sky Sub who is not using one one of their included (two or four depending on sub) Sky Go slots then that is worth looking at (free or you can of course “come to an arrangement”). I believe it is 720p now rather than the earlier 480p. Works nicely on playstation (3+) and Xbox (360+) and with a media remote (rather than gamepad) is very user friendly.
Bob (unless it is the old white NowTV box) you can get netflix on nowtv box these days. If funds permit I’d get a Roku (the express was £19.99 in one of the amazon sales recently) – does the lot and without promoting a particular platform.
blimey there’s a blast from the past!
No, I’m just counting the days until I get rid of Sky.
Haven’t regretted it for a second – and since I left they have bombarded me with offers to go back. Worst thing you can do with Sky is be a loyal paying customer. I’ve got my mums Skygo on the (non-gaming) Xbox as well as NowTV that I dip in and out of for the cricket…..and NowTV is the same as Sky regarding loyalty – if you sign up and keep paying you get nowt – I don’t and get regular offers for a cheap month of Sky Sport which I generally take up if it fits in with a Test series (although at the moment wishing I hadn’t bothered).
Thanks Dave – my first thought was they pushed a “Q” update at the wrong boxes but it does basically work….so guess it is deliberate and will be coming to other boxes soon…..probably looking to push legacy equipment users to Q……Mother is not impressed.
Yep I agree with Dave’s recommendation – have used it for W7 and W10 without issue. The 1TB drive may also come with cloning software – worth a look – but Easeus is my default these days.
Another history goodie – BBC World Service – War And Words
The Nationwide Flex Plus account is paid (£13/pcm = £156 anually). It includes breakdown cover as well as global travel insurance (there are age caveats) and mobile phone insurance. Only mentioning in case people are not aware. You also get 2.5% interest on up to £2,500 sitting in the account which is approx £5-£6 off the monthly premium if you look at it that way. It is also a travel-friendly card. Not for everyone but could suit some.
Its a shame but so surprise – I remember a few threads on MM – the OS was nice to use but terrible app support, and even worse integrating with normal Windows (i.e. your home network) was almost impossible – way more difficult than android or IOS. On batteries, my Lenovo P2 has 5,100 but also appears to be really well optimised, as does the battery (half the size) in a trusty Xperia z3 which my other half is using. I’ve got an old chi-phone which is just a spare now but that had a 4,000mAh battery but would last nowhere near as long as the Sony.
