Just a quick update on adding web content to your ereader (kobo or kindle). Spent a few hours yesterday trying out various options for getting content from Wiki and other sites on to my Kobo. Tried a good few but short answer is that this one won hands down. It is more reliable in getting all the content in a sensible format from a web page. The resulting files are smaller than other plugins with no apparent loss of quality. You can also create your own “books” by opening multiple sources on different tabs and then picking what you want when you activate the add-on (an icon in the menu bar). Can create .epub (kobo) or .mobi (kindle).

I know you can do a lot of this with “pocket” for reading offline on a tablet or phone, but specifically for an ereader this add-on is excellent.

You’re welcome Les – I agree ereaders seem overpriced – and this particular model probably more so due to being discontinued. Happy Reading !

No experience of these but on that link I got an option to tick for a 35% discount (applied at check out)…I didn’t buy it but tried it and it worked – brought it down to £40.94 at checkout.

Cheers Bob – many people reckon Pie and Mash Liquor is made with eels as well (lots of the Pie and Mash shops would have signs with “Pies and Eels” as they also sell/sold jellied eels).  This is (or sadly was) Nathans on Barking Road – another victim of the move away from Upton Park. Used to eat in their a lot, queues for a hundred yards. Got a takeaway once and was eating it out of a polystyrene box in the West Stand at Upton Park. Was sat next to a German journalist who I was chatting to nice bloke but he was nearly physically sick when I poured the liquor on and especially the 6 sachets of vinegar (sorry Duke!)

The free upgrades have officially finished, but did a few late last year where I just loaded the old W7 key at setup (clean windows 10 install) and they happily auto-activated once 10 was installed and they went online. They may have shut that back door since but it was working before Christmas. Produkey will get you the existing W7 key if you don’t have the licence sticker or can’t read it.

Dave if you get that far you should get down to Manzies on Tower Bridge Road. One of the most famous and historic in London (sadly all disappearing including Nathans at Upton Park). If you think the green gear is off wait till I tell you that you have to slaughter the whole lot in vinegar and pepper !!

Pie and Mash Bob ? – proper pie and mash?? i.e. with liquor (parley sauce) – not seen that outside London/Essex/Kent. If the gospel is spreading then happy days !!

PM I’ve got the “Lite” of that  – love it – best tablet I’ve had. I do all my volume with swipes in “BS Player” so not notices any button issues. What amazes me the most is the quality of the speaker and the battery life. Mine was £140 from Argos  maybe 6 months ago. Can’t fault it to be honest.

That’s good news Les. Be interested to know how you get on. I can recommend this case

If you don’t have it already then Calibre is godsend for ereader management (hosting, conversion, WiFi transfer to kobo), along with the DeDRM plugin and the “kepub” format (“kobo epub”) which is an optimised version of epub (although standard epub is fine for most “normal” books.

Happy Reading – you’ve had a result at that price and I think the form factor is better than their newer, dearer 8″ model.

If it helps my ipad (Air 2) works quite happy with a normal (phone) SIM card. I regularly put my work phone sim card in it and it works AOK – so you might not be restricted to a data only SIM (normal phone SIM might work out cheaper).

interesting that Duke – I’ve got the Air 2 and like it. Its the first i-thing I’ve had. found the os restrictive at first (e.g. downloading youtube for travel etc) but workarounds for all of it. Battery life on mine is excellent. this is a work device – I would stillgo android with my own money (think I have the same huawei as you) – but I can’t fault the Air 2 for much.

I’m ashamed to say when I first read “is a blue pub” I thought Duke meant he was putting strippers on!

Very good point by Ed – mate of mine has a local bar here and does functions most Friday and Saturday nights – big chunk of his total income.

I would imagine there’s a a balance between attracting new customers and keeping your old ones. No point dropping football and horse racing if all your existing punters expect it and can get it somewhere else. Likewise with your choice of beer. Of the two pubs I use in Plaistow one keeps plenty of Ales and sells plenty. Also has football and racing.

The other would do well to sell 10 pints (of Ale) a week. It is a lager power-drinking football pub. It is the football (even though since the move it is nearly 3 miles from the new ground) that keeps it going, but they don’t show any football or racing in there – just music (from the period 1978 – 1981 !).

You get quite a few like me use both, but most drink in one or the other. Getting Ales in (which go off quick) would be very expensive if you weren’t going to sell much.

I’ve returned a couple of phones recently (one with a pre-paid label and one my own label (Special Delivery) – they asked what was in the boxes, I said a “phone with built in battery” – they typed that in to the system but there was no problem posting them (UK addresses). I have had the issue trying to return something to an AliExpress seller in China – they wouldn’t accept it and neither would any of the couriers(on account of the battery).

Also be careful if you are planning to show “unorthodox” sporting events. A lot of pubs here been done in the last year or so -£8,000 fines each. Only a couple still doing it now and on a who-you-know basis with doors locked and shutters down.

Really wish you all the best – I think ironically the pubs that haven’t shut have a better chance now that so many have been driven out of business. Certainly true in Plaistow – only four left out of probably 15 or so a decade ago – but they have hooverdup the punters from the others and look OK for now. Probably a different landscape where you are.

Yeah my mum’s Kindle keyboard is still going strong. Feels “old” when you pick it up but not for long. I’ve kept my old Kobo Glo too – fits in the pocket of your shorts on holiday (I often go fora yomp, pint, walk back while the boss relaxes at a beach/pool somewhere). Feels tiny next to the Aura One but again once you start reading you forget. Pictures and maps aint great on ereaders but they are much better on the Aura One and I need to zoom less.

Apologies – mine is the older Kobo Aura One (7.8″) Not the Kobo Forma (8″) that Drezha linked.

The Argos link for mine is correct though as is the other info on it I posted.
