Well, i did build it, but to be honest its sat under the desk idle for nearly a year. So im glad i didn’t shell out too much. Its also sat their the only machine receiving emails about forumite. Hence my somewhat extended absence from ‘da scene’.
Any body know how to white list on hotmail 😛

hardware in the case, a little sad to say goodbye to a 10 year asus friendship with that board. But such is life, and the 750ti is asus anyway.

IPad Mini 2, Asus Nexus 2012I went through this evolution back at Bham, UT2004 had native Linux support which was brilliant and the classics like DOD ran fine.
Like you have the MBP for doing life things, but after dusting the cob webs the tower has been put back in service for gaming.
the debate in my mind currently stand at, is there really anything I want to play so badley I can’t run it on Linux or the MBP.
For me i am still undecided, having spent half a decade away from PC gaming pretty much everything I enjoyed playing is either ported to the fruit or wine compatible.
But… what is the harm in having an extra disk in the box with windows on, just for games? Especially when you can have the MBP sat next to monitor with anything else entertainment wise on the Retina display?

IPad Mini 2, Asus Nexus 2012January 31, 2017 at 9:45 pm in reply to: Base Clock Overclocking, what is this tepid new world of overclocking #3102but thats boring. Its actually hurting looking at a build and thinking, hmmm, isn’t that adequate, isn’t that just fine, isn’t that just a pretty lego set with a few flashy lights.
I want to be going hmmm, well i bet this could play crisis if i twiddled a few voltages and got my airflow just right. It also seems to make pretty much an artificial motherboard and chipset hierarchy pushing the nicer features such as decent on board audio and lightening connectors to the higher end boards.
NVM, wine fixes all.

IPad Mini 2, Asus Nexus 2012well i hadn’t been on the MM forum for years, perhaps even as far as Bulldozer days (when last i looked to build). Seems like its been reasonably active this past couple of weeks.
Don’t know what the progress of getting the old threads archived or moved over.

IPad Mini 2, Asus Nexus 2012Ok, another simpleton question, what’s the crack with ram these days?
having just dug out the box for my lag 775 board which had all of my case accessories in I found my original OCZ platinum PC6400 matched 2x1gb 4 4 4 15 sticks which I assume means I’ve OCD black under the desk ATM.
Now, all this new fangled and vegazled ddr 4 stuff doesn’t make must sense, but LTT seems to suggest ram makes 2/10s of no difference to overall system performance so just get a dual channel kit with as much as you need.
So any 16gb matched kit deals about? Should I be worried about speed?

IPad Mini 2, Asus Nexus 2012Ok USB 3 question, can I connect two USB ports at the front of my existing case to the USB 3 headers on a new mobo?
am I correct in thinking that the ports are the same?

IPad Mini 2, Asus Nexus 2012Ok so I’m having a bit of a flap over which chipset would support both a pci e graphics card, an m.2 ssd and USB 3s
the plan is current
Is either the pentium or entry i3 8gb ram and run it with the 750 ti I have but perhaps step up to a 1060
oh with the m.2 Sid to boot from and the old Sata spin drives as storage

i do like the idea of building a server, i smash big numbers everyday at work but i much prefer the times when all the networks break or i’m forced to find a work around or something like that. the numbers don’t seem to light the fire that the machines that do the numbers do.

IPad Mini 2, Asus Nexus 2012well i’ve got the bug for some pc tinkering, even as far as considering scraping eBay for 775 CPUs and building what would have been a dream machine circa 2017.
Plus the googles seem to suggest that Ryzen may start to push a few intel prices south. but as always il wait and see, and forever be building that elusive wait tech machine. Unless i finally follow your advice and just build a decent cheap rig that does 95% of the work for 50% of the cost.

IPad Mini 2, Asus Nexus 2012I concour. The mix up until my forced year of auto was a good foundation for engineering appreciation of wider concepts now.
The department was reacredited everyyear I was there by the imeche as they kept changing the syllabus that’s why I moved to physics for final year postgrad wooooo physics for life.
So so is the view now on Ka by lake, if you are building new get a 4 thread pentium?

IPad Mini 2, Asus Nexus 2012you may want to check your assumption on the G4620 not having hyper threading,

oh whats that you say? is it “GOOD GRAVY they do a 3.5 ghz version with HT for 64 quid, :O”
https://ark.intel.com/products/97143/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G4560-3M-Cache-3_50-GHz
and lest we forget the mocking i took when i said i wanted a dual x16 capability because i would down the road consider a dual card setup? and what did i do 3 and a half years post build, buy a matching 8800GT for pennies (ahem cough cough, they both died about 3 years later and now I’m on a 750ti)
All the jesting aside, whilst not multiplier overclocked I’ve been researching and seen a number of articles and benchmarks with frequency OC. From what I gather this is similar to whacking up the FSB on boards of old like i did with the e4500 on my outrageous asus 680i chipsetted board. When done with some Sky and Kaby pentiums and i3s it seems to give some very MINTY fresh results.
