Unfortunately it went to the wall  and is no longer with us. Great pity I know but CA is still with us.

I quite like CA. I don’t totally agree with The Duke but I see his point. There are so few computer magazines left nowadays that I subscribe for the news it contains rather than specific articles. Yes there are reviews but what computer magazine did not have reviews. I also like the fixits at the end as I do find them quite interesting.

The latest issue is 519 and covers 17-30 January and was delivered on Friday. Subscribers always get then early.

Seems that Nvidia chips are also now affected.

                Hi Bob

Yes I do remember it very well and I agree that the SNCO was very badly treated. I believe it was because he countersigned in the Form 700 without actually checking it out because the chopper was desperately needed for a mission. Memory may be faulty as it is over 50 years ago and at the time I was on 209 Sqn (the twin and single pioneers) and on a detachment to Sibu up country. Now that does bring back memories but I won’t go into that here.

If I am honest I can say that the nearly two years I spent in Kuching were two the best years of my life (I volunteered for the extra year) and I am still in contact with a local Chinese family with whom I made great friends.

Yes it does bring back memories. In 1965/7 I was in the RAF posted to RAF Kuching in Sarawak.

The Bristol Freighters used by the Kiwi Air Force were daily visitors bringing in supplies from Singapore/Malaysia.

I wonder if the photo of the one coming home was one that I worked on in those far off days.

I also found out that my two gmx accounts had been de-activated.. Tried to reactivate but not possible. Then tried to open a new account with the same name but it says the name is currently in use. Then tried to send an email to that account and it was undelivered as the inbox does not exist. Looked at their terms and it does say that any email address can not be re-allocated so that is that I suppose. Can’t be bothered to think up another alias so just deleted all records from my computer.

Yes it seems to have now been fixed. Thanks.

Still being redirected to the Forumite advert when logging in and when selecting a topic. It does not do this if I use the back arrow to return to the topic.

Understand that there are teething troubles so this is just for info not a complaint.

                          Hi Bob

My wife had her second hip replacement a couple of weeks ago. It is now just a routine operation. Operation on day 1 and discharge on day 3. Absolutely pain free for first few days then pain killers for a while. Also for the first month self administered daily injections into the tummy area to prevent blood clotting. Recovery speed does however depend a lot on doing the exercises (they are very gentle but promote healing).

Regarding the anaesthetic, it can be done using an epidural injection into the spine (Wife unable to have this due to titanium rods screwed to her lower spine) or a normal general anaesthetic. They say that the epidural is safer but personally I would always prefer to be knocked out.

I wish her luck but I’m sure she will be fine.

I updated 10 machines yesterday. two failed and needed me to download the executable version which worked in both cases. What I don’t understand is why the update was called:-

                                    2017-11 Cumulative update for Win10 V1709 for AMD64-based Systems.

This was the title shown in Windows update even on systems that were Intel not AMD.

Funnily enough the reference to AMD64-based does not occur in the downloaded exe file.

                                    Anyone know why

Looking at some of the replies here, I think there is far more hysteria here than out in the big world!!

                                      I tend to agree.

I use Macrium Reflect Free version to produce a disk image of the drive on which Windows is installed together with any small system drive that is shown on the drive map.

I find the women’s game more entertaining than the men’s game. Their passing is superb and there are no histrionics. If someone goes down they are in need of help. Thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to Tuesday’s match
