Aimed at fellow Forumites who use a HA, and the electronic experts here.

SWMBO has a new NHS digital HA, replacing the clunky old krap she had before. Gets in the car, I turn on the engine and the HA makes one of several different noises:  a squeal, squeak, vibration, sometimes a chirp like a bird. Annoying to me, much more so to my OH, whose shell-like it penetrates.

I am waiting for an Audiology appointment to change my own HA, which I have not used for a while as it is frankly useless. It turns up everything and I cannot distinguish between sounds. So I found my old HA and tried it in the car – no noises.

Anyone have any ideas? I have reached the point at which I cannot hear some of what is said to me and the TV subtitles are having to keep me in touch with the programmes. If they only would!

      Blimey, I’m bloody decrepit!

My guess would be that your car’s electrics are to blame.link

As the link says unless you can pin it down to a faulty component in your car there is not much you can do. Put the aid near to the various components of your car’s electrics and see which one causes the squeal – preferably removing it from SWMBO first!

Thanks Ed for that Link. Explains a lot: it only happens on engine start, so next time I hoist SWMBO into the co pilot seat, I will ask her to keep her HA switched off until we have driven away. I have also asked Hyundai for a possible answer and fully expect to get one: they have a very active UK site and have helped me before.
