I have eventually given up on AOMEI to restore my uncle’s PC but in all honesty AOMEI have been absolutely great with support but the language issue is getting to me. It seems occasionally 3 steps forward and 5 backwards!!

Anyway, have decided to reinstall the OS from the CD and go the long ways round.

HOWEVER my uncle decided to avail himself of the “extremely honest offer made by MS by hitting the X in the top RHS of screen only to find he had allowed the download.  Anyway he’s happy with it – but as I am now using the original W7 disk to reinstall the OS and it’s well past the return to W7 option – how do I now please go about getting W10 back on his PC?

I have heard of the ‘Media Tool Creator’ – do I load W7 and then go for the MTC to download W10 on the W7 licence or can I download a W10 ISO and go that way and use the W7 number?  Never done this before.

      Any advice appreciated.  Thanks,

      Dave

Just go straight for Windows 10, it will magically reactivate itself. I say magically as I have no idea how it works out even after a HDD swap, but it does.

On your PC download the tool from here then run it. It will assume you want to create the same version as is on your PC, but you can tell it exactly the version you want. You can create a USB (the best plan) or burn an ISO to a DVD. Boot from what you’ve created and when asked for a code just say you don’t have one. W10 will then install.

On first boot you may be offered the chance to do a 4GB upgrade straight away (to the latest Creators edition). I recommend you do it as it’ll only happen within days anyway.

Get on with installing drivers (windows is very good at doing this itself now) and whatever software you want. By the time you’ve finished it will have activated.
