Anyone ever had a go using SDR software? I have a couple of compatible DVB-T tuners coming tommorow and it never dawned on me they may be compatible untill re-reading the description. I was reading up on SDR a couple of month back and it peaked my intrest but then I just forgot about it untill today.

June 16, 2017 at 7:39 pm #9221Not got around to it yet, but there is masses of info/how-tos for the raspberry pi. Just google “pi and sdr.”. I wonder how long it will be before the Government bans it.
June 16, 2017 at 7:47 pm #9222Reading up on it you can go into maplins etc.. and buy hand held legally and it is not illegal to own the equipment it’s just illegal to listen ? Keep in mind though it can be used to pick up legal cb, and amiture cb radio which is off course what Ill be intending.

June 17, 2017 at 7:12 am #9232Best to read about it here.

Far more sophisticated, and uses kit like old DVR sticks. As the term SDR means software defined radio it can do a very wide range of things. (See wiki) The most interesting is the potential to set up a very low power wireless mesh network as an Rx/Dx capability is inherent when used with a Pi.
June 18, 2017 at 12:21 pm #9255@edps These are the sticks that I bought. They seem to be doing there job but obviously I need better arial bits n bobs that are comeing tommorow and then I can see what can be done. What ever happens it will be intresting just reading up and tinkering. Only spent an hour with it last night on the small poor provided arial and there is some strange sounds out there 🙂

Love FM??
What software did you use to hook it up?
June 18, 2017 at 3:44 pm #9260I used SDR# for the reason of a quick and simple install on windows but when some arial bits come tommorow i’ll go over to linux I think. Plus, I have an extra few tv tuners if nothing works out. ?

June 18, 2017 at 6:52 pm #9278The podcast (video cast) Hak5 do. E loads of shows on sdr a year or so ago, they was using it to follow air traffic. Over many episodes and went FR basics to quite deep.
I was intrested in it cos my dad was a Ham, so I put them on in the back ground but never really took notice. But did think it a decent project.
So you may want to look the show up, and scroll through the archive. The guy is a real geek, and does some great stuff. I can’t recall his name, Dan I think, but his wife is Shannon morse. This that’s her maiden name thought.
His wife does the robot of revision 3, now called techThing iirc. Or maybe teckzilla. I’m terrible with names. It may be neither.
June 23, 2017 at 12:34 pm #9400I have spent a couple of days using the SDR software and dongle now. I built my self a simple AM Loop arial about 16″ square. Not the best but doing the job untill I ethier buy a better one or build something more complex. Can pick up 118 mhz to 135 mhz upto atleast 40 mile away and maybe even further if I do more research to see what is comeing from were.
