For the mother in law, not ios based. What is the best bang for buck around the £150-200 mark.
She wants over 8″, decent res, 32gb would be nice, sd a must, as is usb otg.
Usage, movie watching, email and browsing.
Amazon isn’t a must be desirable.
I way out the loop, the 2016 Samsung galaxy tab A looks OK to me, but thought asking here would be best.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016) T580 25.54 cm (10.1 inch) Wi-Fi Tablet PC (Octa Core, 2GB RAM, 16GB eMMC, Android 6.0, new version) black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01ERY8650/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_a7zkzb71N63CQ
May 27, 2017 at 6:07 pm #8040Hard to go wrong with a Samsung tablet.
I use the “John Lewis” filter because they don’t stock crap and yes they have it for £199 with a 2 year warranty.
May 27, 2017 at 6:09 pm #8041I was thinking of sending her curries, (£199 there too). Keeps me out the loop the best I can lol.
May 27, 2017 at 6:10 pm #8042Steve – that one you’ve linked to doesn’t show USB on the connectivity, just Bluetooth. If you click on “compare with similar items” it shows the white A with slightly lower spec – TFT not LED backlight – no HDD only internal storage. Maybe check out another?
May 27, 2017 at 7:15 pm #8048If you could get a Shield K1 for sensible money it’s still the dogs danglies for the RRP. You can’t though.
So the Samsung looks good.
May 27, 2017 at 9:44 pm #8058The Samsung one join has usb otg and 32gb internal storage, plus an sd.
No tablet (out side of a windows surface) had an hdd. Internal storage is the hdd. Well it’s the soldered on solid state.
Pm I didn’t think about the shield. Will have to check it out. That must have usb otg, as you can hook controllers to it? Can’t you?
May 27, 2017 at 10:06 pm #8062Sure can. Does OTG better than any other Android device I’ve come across so far.

If it’s there, that’s all good – I was just taking the info off the spec sheet on the Amazon page. :good: I don’t know the tablet at all.
May 27, 2017 at 11:58 pm #8065The Amazon tech specs are always space. With anything technical always Google the item before you buy. I equate it to buying of argos or curries etc site. They never have the details you or I would want see. Just the “headline” specs.

Very true. If I’m looking at phones, I’ve found GSMArena are great for comparisons. :good:
May 28, 2017 at 3:33 pm #8085Yes GSM is always my first port of call for looming at phone specs. I don’t know of a place like it for tablets. So I Google and a dig us usually needed.
