I’ve been using DropBox for several years now to store photo’s online that I want to post in one of the forums I use (yes, other forums do exist, shock horror gasp), unfortunately DropBox has taken security to such a degree of stupidity that it appears to be impossible to make a public link to a photo stored on the site that will allow the image to display in the forum post.

I’m now looking for a free, easy to use alternative that will allow photo’s uploaded to the site to be displayed on a forum post.  Storage capacity doesn’t need to be huge as the originals are downsampled to 850 pixels wide so I didn’t get anywhere near the 2GB limit on DropBox.

Over to you, Forumites, any suggestions?

If it’s just for sharing photos to forums (fora?), Flickr and Photobucket are good options. I don’t know what the amount of free storage is now, but at one point Flickr was giving everyone 1TB, and Photobucket gives 2GB free, and I’m only using about 200MB for 2200 photos. I’ve got another 8GB in rewards on Photobucket. I couldn’t tell you how I earned any of it though

Or Google photos. If you don’t want your real name attched to the photos, open a new account just for your share photos. You have a 15gb storage, but any pictures under 16mp don’t count towards your allowance, so it’s basically unlimited.

I like Flickr too that has 1Tb allowance , never liked photo bucket, never used it, but when people post from it I always find it slow to view.

An outsider is Mega, 50gb limited so you can can go mad and share 16mp pics for the rest of your life on any of the platforms.

However, with Google Photos, you can’t embed the image into a forum post like the OP wanted though can you? You can with Flickr though.

Can you not? Not something I’ve done in a while. I use to do it though there legacy page, picasa.

I just put a link to a pic these days, so I misses the non embed thing.

                Update-embeded from Google photos

Second update, attempt to embed an old mm album. Also works.

It’s not advisable to show your reg online. I once emailed google earh about this, now all reg’s are blanked out.

I bet It’s too late to Edit your post.

I stand corrected. It was purely from the point of view that Flickr offers embed codes in BBCODE, whereas I couldn’t see that on Google Photos. Might depend on the forum software I guess.

However, as this is about the only forum I use these days, I guess Google Photos would do the job!

I never see the harm in having my reg online. Given that it’s on show 24h a day etc.

Ive had plates stolen before, and I he car they was placed on sadly ended up killing a man that plays he stolen car crashed into near Chester if I recall.

With right app you could check if my mot and tax is upto date.  It is. But a car Vx loaned me the other month I checked and it wasn’t taxed!

The app is very useful if you have parking issues. We have a small carpark on the mountain, an old train station that served the lead mines. It just about services our few houses. However from time to time, people from the village will dump untaxed or mot’d cars, to hide/store them, as we don’t have the room, after a week or so they get reported by our Australian resident and they get towed.

Also a great app when shopping for second hand cars. Which I’m about to undertake for my girl. Very cheap and fast way to check a cars status on the fly.

@drezha – I sort of cheated, you can’t directly embed from Gphotos.

You need to copy the url link, via the share tab. Then paste that in to this site, and it spits out an embed code.

So you was actually right. But it’s easily fixed.  :good:
