As I age and my cataracts slowly get thicker, I get more and more irritated with graphics designers who think it is cool to make computer text illegible by using low contrast fonts such as light grey on white or light green on white (or dark grey on black etc.). I think the lecturers in the arty-farty schools that teach such abominations should be hung up by the thumbs until they recant for their lack of fellow feelings!
I’m afraid to say that Linux Mint is by far the worst offender, and it offers no simple way to make fonts a universal black (for light themes) or white for dark themes.
August 3, 2022 at 5:20 pm #69841Edp, I agree wholeheartedly with every word of your moan. I have been struggling to read some stuff for a few years now.
I have found one method that CAN sometimes work in some situations.
With mouse, click and “select” an area of text you wish to read. It should now be easier to read.
If still unreadable, copy to your favourite document software (Libre office “writer” with Mint).
Why the hell you need such methods I also blame on the silly arty-farty kids involved.

August 4, 2022 at 7:09 am #69842I agree there are ways around it, but Linux Mint uses its artyfarty designs during installation where it is difficult to find any ways around the problem except guesswork. It is also compounded by my 4K screen as this results in really tiny illegible Mint installation instructions as the Web Design FArt School the designer attended did not teach them how to make dialog boxes that scale with resolution.
I’m afraid the modern age has degenerated into style over substance. Never mind if it doesn’t work or falls apart, just so long as it looks good!

August 4, 2022 at 7:21 pm #69845It was Pi=Mint that gave me the problems, which were so bad, I gave up and reverted to Pi-OS. Although that too has tiny font it is just about visible. Once up I can customize the system fonts and all is then on the right track except a tiny camouflaged Mouse pointer which still isn’t quite sorted.

Lol.
After years of thinking about it, today I actually got around to increasing the font size on my music player in the lounge. From 9 to 14. Why I struggled all these years to get it done when I should have done it on day one, I dont know.
