Having another PC to find the motherboard drivers for, I thought that as I hadn’t used it for some years, I would try out DriverPack Solution & I wish I hadn’t.

Mine is version 17.4.5 run from a USB thumb drive along with all the drivers so that it can be used off line. It wants to run & install everything automatically. It took ages to sort itself out then installed Opera, a Facebook link & something else that I can’t remember before I cancelled the programme & removed the unwanted wares. Shame because it used to be a good programme but perhaps it’s the price that has to be paid when a programme is free & requires further resources.

Happy to report that Snappy Driver Installer Origin did the job. Had to use the online option as I hadn’t downloaded any driver packs. These are delivered to the programme by torrent (found accidentally by hovering the cursor, or right clicking, the downloading line in the GUI).

Winamp 5.9

Following on from the beta of Winamp 5.8 in 2018 version 5.9 is now available to download which includes support for Windows 11.

Versions 2 & 5 can be updated by installing over the top but version 3 needs to be uninstalled before installing 5.9.

Rufus 3.2 now allows all restrictions of Windows 11 to be bypassed.

After the ISO,  Partition scheme & Target system requirements (eg GPT/UEFI MBR/BIOS) have been selected
Start – Rufus gives a popup window
Customise Windows Installation with tick boxes for
• Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot & TPM 2.0
• Remove Rrequirement for online Microsoft account
• Disable data collection (skip privacy questions)
• Set local account using same name as this user’s
• Set regional options using the same value as this user’s
