I need a very low profile pci-e ribbon adapter cable.

I figure I should try to make one my self.

I have some old IDE ribbon to start with but I duno what all the pins are for on a pci-e  x1 slot.

Like do I have to use all or could I just sue the ones at the front or back..

        Well, I got one.

        See the link.

So I will see how I get on. Just hope it points the right way.

Crazy: I got a free one month trial on amazon prime and free return and its being delivered tomorrow.

Search on line for pci-ex1 pinout and you will get links such as this.

Tbh I’m not certain this link is what you are seeking, but the Google-foo magic word is PINOUT. As you can see from the example there are a few apparent duplicate GND pins, but there is a fair chance that the internal card layout may need them to ensure that you do not get funny ground loops. I’d be inclined to say that the safest option is to connect the ribbon to all the pins.

For simple connectors such as usb cables you can often get away with doing what you said, but a pci-e board is normally not just something in which you only need to connect pwr and gnd.

Thanks for the link EDP. Spot on.

I received the PCI-E x1 ribbon expansion slot and it did not work. Discovering this was a proper run around.

It gave my PC a true head ache causing apps to launch left right and center like a dropper virus on steroids and the hardware I used in the ribbon slot was unrecoverable by windows and in a mobo slot it worked just fine. Thank fully no damage caused to my hardware.

He, he see me dodge full stops and commas.

Would a right angle PCIE riser do?

I may have just ran into compatibly problems. It seems Riser Cables are not hot swoppabel due to hardware and bios types and settings. I found this eye opening video on u tube.

OK, I got it to work. The big winning trick was just to reset the bios with the new hardware in place.

Then slowly enable my preference bios settings.

All seems to be above board.

                  Anyway.

Thanks for the video link. It gave me a much better understanding of the problem. I would guess that high bandwidth comes with associated RF noise which must give the potential for cross talk/loops and all sorts of nasties. I think I’ll steer clear of riser cables!

You are dead right. Even though I have figured out to set mine up correctly on the odd occasion in games when moving from game video back to game you get the nasty buzz thing you raised earlier. But so far it has only happen on Metro E E Edition.

So far its the only time I have come across this error.

So I made a woolly U Tube video to cover the woolly situation I found my self in.
