I was looking at storage today. Some very good prices out there. It now looks as though a 1TB hdd is a dead product.

But, back on topic NVME PCI-E adapters. They look like a good fix in the current?

Strange how they have not taken off and become more mainstream.

      Opinions?

I bought a cheap NVMe PCIe adaptor when I was experimenting with trying to boot from an NVMe M.2 drive on a standard bios motherboard. I didn’t do any speedtests, just installed Windows on it.

Because I had a spare 128GB M.2 drive I have just bought an NVMe USB enclosure which I have plugged into the router to use as a basic server. Again, I didn’t do any speed tests but just happened to notice files copying at 30Mb/s – but the router port is USB2.

@wasbit. Grand, so you made basic server or Naz. I never would have thought of that.

So where I was testing the water is because later this year PCI-E 4 will basically become the new norm and in effect everyone who moves onto the new kit will have a HEDT pc (well, in some ways). Which means that regular punters like me will be able to access kit like an Asus hyper m.2 x16 nvme pci-e 4 / 4 x4 expansion card and most juicy: Raid.

          Anyway. 🙂

I’m always at least 5 years behind the times with hardware. I didn’t think my idea was that innovative. Most people use the router USB port with a pen drive or perhaps an SSD in a caddy. It was just a way of putting a spare M.2 drive to use & can give me a temporary back up of files until I do a proper back up.

BTW I’ve used FreeFileSync for years – https://freefilesync.org/

A couple of years back when I posted about FFS on alt.comp.freeware,  one person complained that they couldn’t use it because of it’s garish colour.
