I am after a totally silent (low profile-not much room in case ) CPU fan similar size that comes with an Intel CPU.

But it must be totally silent.

I have purchased some in the past and they turn out not to be silent.

Is there such a thing as they class them as silent yet they’re not.  Silent to me means you can’t hear a thing.

      Cheers
      John

Look for Be Quiet fans. They do low profile too.

If it is a micro or mini case then an external fan unit may suit. The fan blades can be larger, and so slower which cuts noise down to almost silent. Normally the case sits on top of the fan unit which is then powered from a USB connection to the case,  so fitting is very simple.

Thanks Dave I have looked at a few Be Quiet fans can’t seem to find 1200 suitability nor low profile.

Ed I am not sure what type of case it is I go on advice (recieved on here) about a previous build (using this case) I don’t think it would be suitable for a sand up type like an artic freezer pro 11. I can’t work out how an external fan would cool an internal CPU.

            Cheers

What about a water cooler with a fan/rad outside the case?? This was the first one I looked at.

Solves the height problem, so long as the piping will reach outside the case – or maybe even inside??

Truly silent systems usually rely on transferring the heat from the cpu/gpu to a lump of metal which then radiates the heat from the case itself.  An external fan cools the case which assists the rate of transfer of heat from the cpu etc. You normally only get this sort of cooling on very small form-factor cases and you can tell how it works as the case will be metal and very warm in operation.

                  Thanks for the info Ed.

Thanks JayCee it looks interesting, I have vents the fan might go on, however it would restrict opening the case.

I pause and think is that fan silent?

I was hoping to get a  stock type but silent. I have purchased a few that claim to be silent but found not the case.

I was hopeing someone new of a silent (for sure) one.

                  Cheers

“I was hoping someone knew of a silent (for sure) one.”

Anything by BeQuiet, they aren’t cheap (but not too expensive). For a low profile one you’ll need to check carefully on the clearance to things like ram.

I’ve also used many of the cheap and cheerful Arctic Alpine range and not found them noisy. The ARCTIC Alpine 12 is less than a tenner and not hard to find. It’s rated at 0.3 Sone which is 22db, that’s louder than leaves rustling but a lot quieter than a whisper. That would do me. It’s the same form factor as the Intel fan so it’s going to fit.

                      Thanks Dave

I got me an ARCTIC Alpine 12.

It’s a shame they keep changing the socket and the fittings with it. AMD’s bundled coolers are much better but they’ve abandoned us 🙁

If they stopped you wouldn’t need to buy and buy, money making keeps the economy strong. Strength is needed to bring normality (ish) what ever normal is these days.

                          Cheers
