There is an interesting scientific article in Nature (link), that discusses a megaton-sized city-busting event that took place 3600 years ago. Something exploded in the air and completely levelled a civilisation in ancient Israel. The city (which included a five story palace) was pulverised and melted down to the height of a couple of bricks. The airburst is thought to have destroyed everything within a fifteen mile radius!

Evidence is presented that this was not just a nasty earthquake but something like a larger edition of the Siberian Tunguska event, that targetted a centre of civilisation rather than a bunch of trees.

An interesting read, and a good basis for some of the Biblical fantasies.

I was thinking the other day about the last ice age. 10k years ago. When the med/sea would have been much lower if not just lakes.

I wonder how many lost cities are down there.

I guess the latest geological tool is the satellite. with them they can see all sorts of lost stuff where people settled.

It would be good if they pointed one at the med to see what they could uncover like all the lost cites in northern Africa they have found. Now deep under the desert.

+1 to your comment. It is certainly a fact that the sea area adjacent to The Gulf, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Ethiopia was all land in the times of prehistoric man. I reckon they should be looking for origins of the human species in that location rather than Africa.

Add on to that the Desmond Morris theory that man evolved on the seashore e.g. body hair patterns are streamlined, our need for fish oils and that humans have cannabinoid receptors which are used in healing. (Flax is often a shore-line plant). If true, human origins are all below the sea (the flooding of the Black Sea has often been associated with the Noah’s Ark story)
