I purchased new kit to build a computer, I have put it together over a week taking my time and doing it to the letter. Last thing I had (today) was ram. I put the ram in and powered it up with a Windows 10 instaltion USB in.

Their is a light on the mobo the CPU fan is spinning and that’s as far as it goes.

      Here’s the kit

      Mobo

      CPU

      Ram

      SSD

      Cheers

Have you checked the bios settings? It should at the very least say that the USB drive is the boot device.

          cheers Ed

I can’t get into the bios nothing is working other than the fans and a light on mobo, not even any beeps.

I was thinking could it be lack of power to the CPU the PSU only has 4 pins so I purchased this

maybe it needs a PSU with 8 pin plig?

          Cheers

John, as I said to you before. This  i3 10105F processor you linked to does not have integrated graphics – so you’ll need a dedicated graphics card.

I remember, it has a socket that my plug went in. Shows how much I know I should have listened.

Is it just a PCIe I need

will this do or does it need to be dedicated

The slot is marked PCI_E1 (the long one – under the CPU and above the motherboard battery).

That Dell ATI Radeon R5 240 card originally dates from about 6 years ago ?

It has DVI and DisplayPort outputs.

                    Thanks Boris

                    Thanks Boris

                    I am clueless

When I search PCI_E1 it throws up some like when I click the link it doesn’t state as PCI_E1, could it be E3 (further down)

I don’t want to get the wrong type which is 6 years old.

                    Cheers

looking deeper it’s getting frightening did I buy the wrong CPU as onboard graphics (CPU required)

This is my first new kit project, maybe I should have left it.

                      Cheers

                        is this what I need,

When I search dedicated they are far to expensive.

I am nearly giving up and put it all in the box/s. I fetched the mobo box out (ready to pack) and changed my mind for now.

                        Cheers

John, that looks to be far too big for your case, Dave said in your ‘Calling ricedg’ post:-

It must be half height (aka low profile) as your case won’t take full height ones. So you must make sure it does have the right brackets in the box.

Asus GeForce GT 710 2GB GDDR5 £50 Only get this if you can’t afford anything else.

Gigabyte GT 1030 Low Profile D4 2GB £80 All the current GT 1030 cards have only digital output i.e. no VGA. So if you have a VGA only monitor you’ll need an adapter like this for £8.

O yes I forgot what David said (when it comes to it) glad you pointed it out.

Thanks for the suggestions I will have a look.

                              Is this one any good

It does match the suggestion, so maybe a silly question.

That looks like the Low Profile version of this one I’m looking at for my build.

Just make sure that your monitor has an HDMI port ( or Display Port ). If it only has a VGA port you may need the adapter Dave also referenced.

                                  Lovely JayCee thanks

I wish I was going for the one you’re having, maybe 1 day I can get a bigger case. At the moment I use what I can for now.

I have only VGA but I do have the adapter.

Hopefully I can fire the rig up soon.

                                  Cheers

                                      Thanks JayCee

I hope it does work, once gfx card is in?

John, as I said to you before. This i3 10105F processor you linked to does not have integrated graphics – so you’ll need a dedicated graphics card.

                                      A confession

The  i3 10105F was cheaper (by half)  than the i3 10105, so I then forgot all about integrated. However I should have added up the savings I could have made not buying a GFX card. I was trying to save but ended up not.

All becuase of an F, that I was warned about.

Anyway my thanks go to all  participants in this and my other recent threads.

                                      Cheers

Going back to the above suggestion I cheated a little (to save money) and purchased this as a cheap substitute. It’s in a gigabyte mobo. The mobo fires (I think) the HDD flickers, I can’t see it on a monitor, is the gfx card purchase not a good substitute for GT 1030 Low Profile D4 2GB.

                                        Using this
