In a major blow to the Greenie-Doom&Gloom merchants and despite a nuclear disaster that went into melt-down and was in some respects worse than that of Chernoble an independent UN investigatory team has confirmed the following findings:

      link:https://www.unscear.org/docs/publications/2020/UNSCEAR_2020_AnnexB_AdvanceCopy.pdf

      1) There has been NO increased risk of cancer in the local population, however the comprehensive testing regime detected some cancers that would otherwise have gone unnoticed.

      2) The 170 rescue workers who were exposed to extremely high levels of radiation two or three additional cancer cases are expected to be seen in the coming years.

      3) No mutant fish, frogs, cats or dogs have been found. There was however an increase in the spider population. (Humans not spraying insecticide?)

Bottom line it is safe to live in the irradiated areas of Devon and Cornwall (granite has a lot of radio isotopes in it)!

Yeah. I saw a program about the wild life in yer nob ‘ill drop off. True nature reserve and no people allowed back yet.

If I was a local I do not think I would venture back. To risky once you start to disturb stuff.

Watching the recent Ben Fogle at Chernobyl program, the returners are outliving those who stayed away!

Just watched on ketchup. Excellent program and touching from a lot of angles.

Great news that the Nips have cleaned up and looks like Chernobyl power plant will be clean in the next 30 years.

I saw a documentary about 4 years ago (might have been Vice) about the people that didn’t leave Pripyat, if you don’t know the town was essentially built to house Chernobyl workers and support their needs.

They were thriving. Lots of animals to hunt, loads spare to maintain populations and the animals were leaner and healthier.Very little cancer, they would have to break cover to get fags and most of them relied on battering. There were some instances of issues from contaminated water, as in sewage.

IIRC all the animals tested were background radiation or less. No mutations or weird behaviour.

In short, nature will win. No matter how much humans try to feck it up.

I don’t think nature would win after a nuclear exchange between, say, NATO and the Russian Federation though, Nolan. With the exception of North Korea, MAD* is the only factor preventing that.

*Mutually Assured Destruction: has been guiding the thoughts of all nuclear-armed nations for decades. It’s the real deterrent.

When the Thought Police arrive at your door, think -
                I'm out.

+1 My wife has distant cousins who live on the western side of the Fulda Gap. This area was occupied by US troops during the Cold War and it was an open secret to the Germans that the Yanks had buried dozens of tactical nuclear munitions in the surrounding area and that  they would be detonated as huge, very dirty radioactive land mines to blunt any Soviet advance.

Imo it was an open secret in the true spirit of MAD, but ‘better dead than Red’ did not go down too well with the natives!

It was also well-known that the prime US strategy at that time was to fight any nuclear war well away from the US!
