I would give their customer services a call and say that you want to leave BT for someone who provides a better service. If they say anything about still being on contract, just tell them being without internet for 10 days is cause enough. That might encourage them to move quicker.

I’ve just been speaking with Sky to report a noise problem on our line, last Saturday it was. They mentioned that I still had one of the original Sky Hubs from 2014 so they sent a new one out to me and it arrived Monday morning. I had the BT engineer out yesterday and they fitted a new Master socket, which seems to have improved the noise problem.

It can be done, but they seem to be dragging their heels on this one for you.

What colour is being displayed on your hub?

If it is an orange light the hub is ok but in all probability BT have applied an update to your hub that has failed. If it is green the hub is ok but quite possibly the same update has screwed up the wifi. The cure for both cases is the same. Pull out the mains plug, wait 30 seconds (important) then switch on again.  It will then take a couple of minutes to handshake with your gear and restart the wifi. With luck it will then work until the next carp BT update!

If the colour is red, you are correct . The hub is fecked, and you have to wait for your new one. If you look at the BT shop you will see that for HH2 they have the ‘huge’ stock of all of six to cover the UK. Your wait could be quite a while!

You can use any xdsl router on a BT connection, but you need to know the authorisation details.

Modern accounts are generic (and easily looked up) but IIRC some long standing ones are unique.

Thanks all. I am gonna give bt till tomorrow, I am in contract but leys see what they say. The colours were orange n pink. Bt openrrach have been out and it was found the router has had it, at least I have a new bt master socket with built in filter. It seems complicated to use another brand hub. I was hoping just any hub to tide me over. I am shocked the engineer didnt have spares, they even got rid of the bt brand on the van.

              Cheers
              John

John, it’s not complicated. A wizard will set up the VDSL connection, you just say it’s BT and it does the rest. But you will need to know the BT username and password (not the same as your BT account).

The generic one is normally bthomehub@btbroadband.com and a password of bt (or usually anything, it doesn’t matter). Another one is broadbanduser@btbroadband.com.

                  Thanks Dave

I got my new hub from BT so I am back on (at last)

                  Cheers

                      Not so good

I have been trying all day to setup WiFi on my printer (Epson XP 235) on my new BT Home Hub 2.

The computer printer setup can’t find the printer.

                      Cheers

Have you tried the WPS button route John? Link.

If not you might have to try this method instead. Link

If anything at all changes with an Epson printers connection I usually find it best to delete the printer from the PC in question and then run the Epson installation wizard again from scratch.

Wheels I did uninstall completely and run the epson navi, it just wouldn’t find it.

Xlent thanks PM sorted after using WPS and ran the Epson (Navi) it found my printer, all is how it was.

                            Nice one

                            Cheers
