January 6th is the date to put in your calendar and sell US$ forward.
On this date all the Republican right wing wackos will be trying to undermine the US democratic election with allegations that it was easy to rig the election process. A US friend of mine who has aged into a Republican far-right ‘Proud Boy’ wacko tells me that the AltMedia WARROOM has all the information on how they will in real time rig the votes on an official Dominion voting machine (apparently this was demonstrated at a Senate Hearing). The prediction is that the effluvium will then hit the fan with all sorts of civil unrest taking place. :scratch:
January 1, 2021 at 4:23 pm #65059I’m sure they will appear to but won’t actually be. That’ll be enough for the mad heads who just believe whatever is put in front of them but not anyone in the judiciary.
They all have to keep the grift going for as long as possible and show their loyalty enough to get pardoned for the illegalities they get up to doing so. Drain the swamp, what a laugh.

They’re like magicians, get people to look at the hand they’re waving, but ignore the hand that’s picking the Treasury’s pocket!! They need to get as much money behind them, by whatever means, in order to fund Trump 2024, and finish the concealment of all their past mis-deeds.

According to news reports the probability of civil unrest is being taken seriously with the paramilitary National Guard being placed on alert in Washington, and police warnings that they will arrest
shootanyone carrying a gun within the DC precinct.My somewhat politically looney US friend is still maintaining that this is all a Chinese Communist plot against the US including inciting the NYSE (via Biden and his ‘globalist elites’) to disobey Trump’s order for them to delist Chinese Telcos. I’m afraid that all his emails are now full of conspiracy theories gone mad. However, as an anti-gun person he is probably one of the more moderate ones. As a result, I think the authorities are wise to take the threat of civil unrest in Washington very seriously.
January 5, 2021 at 11:57 am #65280CNN were out interviewing the general public yesterday (Democrats and Republicans in Georgia), asking if they’d heard the phone call from Trump to the Republican Secretary of State in Georgia and if so what they thought about it. All the Dems had heard it and none of the GOP supporters had, with some of them denying knowledge of it!!! Talk about selective hearing/memory!!
Having seen some of the demographic for Georgia Republicans, it doesn’t surprise me that they are anticipating unrest. As you say, your friend is one of the moderates, but still is full of the ‘way out there’ conspiracies. The ‘Backwoods Boys’ adopt a dangerous position as they swallow the BS wholesale!!
This Presidency will echo corruption and lunacy for years to come, as they uncover more details.
January 6, 2021 at 8:07 pm #65476What was happening inside Capitol Hill, with the objections to the election results in the states that Trump lost, is a joke, but what is happening outside – and moving inside – the Capitol is a nightmare of Trump’s making.
The Capitol Police are hopelessly outnumbered, the call is out for reinforcements, but we could well see the National Guard moving in, if the protesters don’t respect the 6pm curfew just announced.

January 7, 2021 at 7:13 am #65491Unfortunately what happened yesterday will not be the end of this insurrection. There are too many right-wing wackos who are completely convinced that an elitist world-wide Illuminati-like cadre of billionaires are really in control of the US organs of state and media for their own and China’s benefit.
These wackos are convinced that they need to ‘take-back America’, and save it from the ‘Communist’ clutches of Joe Biden. Most belong to heavily armed southern US neo-fascist groups who are an an unholy mixture of White Suprematist/Survivalist/Religious/ex-Military/Ultra-patriotic people. Emotions are running high, and irrational acts are still very likely to be borne out of the powerless frustration they feel.
I honestly fear that this could split the US apart unless the situation is handled very carefully not just in the immediate aftermath but in the months to come. I just hope that the US does not go seeking an external enemy in order to take media focus off their own internal problems.
On a more positive note, it was good that there were not too many ‘martyrs’ yesterday, and only one ex-military female was killed.

Having urged his ‘patriotic’ supporters for days to turn up in Washington on 6 January and then encouraging them to protest the fraudulent election, it was almost certain that he also ordered restraint by the police within the Capitol Building so that they could seize the ‘fraudulent’ ballot papers.(they almost succeeded!)
It is probably now appropriate for The New Yorker to resurrect their 2016 parody:

It is sometimes hard to sort out pseudoscience from partially developed theories, but intuitively there may be something in Peter Turchin’s work — well, at least as much as the basis for chartists gambling billions on the Stock Market.
Kondratiev Waves are similar examples that purport to underpin humanities irrational actions and predicted an economic crash in 2008! (We are twenty years away from the next one thankfully).
Chaos Theory supports these boom and bust scenarios, but does not really provide any sound predictive element.

I worry about that move, which is already underway as I post.
Brit’s feelings over Brexit were bad enough and could still finish in a fracturing of the UK. Some attempts were then made to reconcile differences by the pro-Brexit majority, but the attitude of the Remain groups does not even come close to the gun-law politics and views of many Republicans. I would have been a lot happier to hear Biden give the one country, reconciliation line.
The danger with a fractured Super State at war with themselves is that they may invoke a common external enemy to get out of their own mess. The equal danger for us is that our idiot Government will then lead the charge just as TB Liar did for Iraq and Cameron foolishly did in North Africa and the Middle East.

I think that it is pretty evident that I have zero sympathy for the antics of extremists in general. However, when Parler hosting by AWS was threatened, the hackers were able to get in and scrape everyone’s data. I think this could now be a problem for the few that were using Parler for legitimate business purposes as their data is now exposed along with that of the rogues.
