hi all, so far not that happy with win 10,( new HD so thought i’d give it a whirl) seems I’m going to have to put some hours in an get used to new surroundings again. A friend suggested going down the lite route? was wondering what you guys take on it is?

April 17, 2017 at 2:30 pm #6327Lite? Just done some Googling and no, you shouldn’t.
I was recently asked about W10 for someone who didn’t want to move from 7, the answer is Classic Shell and it worked for them.
April 17, 2017 at 2:54 pm #6329I would agree if the problem is familiarity – I am lumping the 10 start menu, but it still feels like it is only there grudgingly after the horrors of W8. Still a backward step as a menu for me and the way I use the PC but know others get on OK with it.
Classic Shell as recommended by Dave is on a few PCs of older (even older than me!) neighbours and family members and they all get on AOK with it.
If there are other problems with Windows 10 (beyond familiarity) I think the “lite” tweaks might make them worse in the longer run.
As an aside I’m still staggered how frequently they need to roll out these mega-updates.

It is my theory that they will keep doing them to eventually make anything over 18 months old to be non-supported – so they can “encourage” you to buy new kit ?
Never trust an atom - they make up everything !
April 17, 2017 at 3:20 pm #6332+1for Dave’s response. Classic Shell gets top marks for a Win7 experience. It gets rid of Windows 10 ‘klunky’ tablet form menu. My personal favorites for a paid solution are Stardock Start10 and Stardock Fences.
In theory Fences should run with Classic Shell, but I’ll admit I have not tried that combination.
