I admit to a little paranoia in that imo the last twenty years has seen an increasing trend towards authoritarianism by our Governments. We (together with Australia) ‘enjoy the reputation of being the most spied upon nations in the western world. A little of this is perhaps driven by concerns about terrorism, but it is worrying that most legislation does not have sunset rules that would retire the legislation unless debated in open sessions in Parliament and The Lords.
Covid-19 has also pretty much eliminated the cash society, which gives any Government the power to immediately turn selected individuals into paupers who have to barter for survival.
I worry that the ultra-right Cummings of the world will be tempted one day to abuse these powers, and take advantage of the lemming-like way our populace give away their privacy.
I therefore believe that everyone under the age of sixty should Fawkes their social media photographs to poison image recognition programs such as the near-illegal ultra-right ClearView program that state actors and others are using with no-one’s consent.
Unfortunately unless you are a programmer or know how to compile Linux source, there is currently no easy way to Fawkes images.It will however come very soon I am sure.
