      Peugeot 206 – 03 reg

The indicators kept cancelling, so I took it to a garage. They fitted another stalk and the indicators were fine (at last).

Not long after the MOT was due, it failed on the fog light. This was due to the stalk.
I took it back to the garage, they hadn’t got another, all of a sudden they found one and fitted it for me.

It turned out to be my original faulty stalk, although I couldn’t prove it.

I did email them, but had no reply.

I purchased another stalk off ebay, it’s said to have been fully tested and all works (30 day warranty).

I am still a little worried as my old stalk worked while standing still.

I haven’t the knowledge to replace it, so I have to pay £30 to have it fitted,
my concern then is should I find a fault (hope not) I have to pay to have it took off and the old one put back on.

More money, it would have been cheaper to buy a new one (in the long run)

I am thinking I need to change it myself, the air bag worries me, do I have the tools/knowlege

The seller said (after messaging about it working)
providing you have ordered the correct part number
and it is fitted correctly with the road wheels and clock spring
in the correct alignment together, then you should not experience
      any problems.

Whats road wheels and clock spring

      How hard can it be?

Others will tell you where I go wrong, but to keep you going, the road wheels are those on the car that are in contact with the ground, in this case it would be the front wheels that need to point straight ahead, with the steering wheel centralised. The clock spring will be the way that the self cancelling works, there are several possible ways that the indicators can be made self cancelling and all use some form of contact between the column and the switch mechanism.

It may not involve the airbag at all, unless you make an error, I believe that the battery should be disconnected and that it may be important to earth the right parts before working to avoid the risk of static triggering the airbag.. As you are not confident of the ways of the particular car, it may well be best to get an auto-electrician to do the work.

          Thanks Richard

          That’s done it for me.

I’d best pay £30 and get it done properly.
