I am going to make a start early hours friday morning between 12 & 8. I am hoping that I have practiced enough on my test site that it should only take a few hours.

What you should know in advance:

All moderators will be returned to subscriber status. This is just to speed things up and reduce downtime. Ill reinstate affter the fact.

Some of you have been kind enough to donate this week. This results in a problem though! I need further paid for extensions “$279” to be able to adjust pricing after a member level is started and I am also unable to offer discounts at pressent. I’ll use some of the subscription costs to save up for this plug-in/extension some how make up for those donations made this week. I have kept a record!

I can not think of anything else at the moment to warn about and I will no doubt have to fix a few issues that may occur over time.

Ignore me, I have lost track of my days, I thought it was friday untill I remembered I put my bin out 😚

Lee, if my subscription is over the level you set please ignore any thoughts of a rebate and treat as ‘beer money’. I have a standing monthly PayPal subscription, and I suspect others do as well. Do we just leave things as they are, or do you have other ideas?

Cheers Ed. However how it works is every member is reduced to the role of spectator. Untill a forumite chooses a Role such as Forum Paticipator “Not thought of a name yet” and gone through the checkout process they will remain a spectator and will be only able to browse. I have set up a dummy run here. It will cost you 4 pence to try it but will give you an idea of whats going to happen. If you do try it start out with the “Just Browsing” level and once you have seen that upgrade to the next level.

Subscription Costs.

Login and Browse: £2 every 3 Month “You do not need to login to browse” This is more of a donation every three month’s, it all helps.

Participate:

2 Days: £1.50 For the once in a blue moon posters. Enough time to post a question and recieve a responce etc….

2 Weeks: £3.50 Same as above or you just dont want a monthly subscription.

1 Month: £5

1 Year: £55

I will keep a donation button for none logged in / None registered members or rare visitors which I’ll either name beer tokens or cat treats. 🙂

There is a few more Levels that I will be adding soon but they don’t really concern forumites. Ill explain more on that later.

I have also signed up to Amazon Assosiates and will place them some were not in your face. I only get about 1- 3 percent per sale but again it all helps.

I have other ideas to but they dont involve the forum which once I have this subscription running ok I tell forumites more about that.

One thing I want to be clear on though. Forumite is still a work in progress and I can not gaurantee smooth ride and it will be service as usual.

One thing I am considering for security purposes is setting up automatic updates to the site and server which I will tial for a month and see if things stay stable.

My Ubuntu servers are all set to automatic security updates and so far so good. You do need to login now and again to check for reboots and of course other updates.

I set it up a while back for the site I manage after I realised that I’d missed some updates. I haven’t had a problem with it yet (although I’ve probably just jinxed myself >.< )

Yes – I just followed the prompts through to my PP account and authorised it. Simples!!😀😀

It took me longer to read the ‘contract’ authorising future payments!😋

It has been intresting watching people come & go with out choosing a membership today. Suppose we’ll just have to see how it goe’s. I will not be changing owt now so it’s a case of live or die for the forum 🙂

Well, I have subscribed, but how confusing for an old man!

I used my existing user name, but told it was already taken, and my password, again already taken, likewise my email address, already taken. I changed them all, found myself logging in to paypal, wondering if it would work. After paying, I looked at my membership details, finding I was still OldLes with same email. I ASSUME original password. No doubt I will find out next time I log in.

Is it just me?

Maybe because I was away for a while, but I just logged in this evening (Saturday) and it all went without a hitch. Paid the Annual Sub, picked up my details.
