Hi All. Happy New Year. My desktop PC has at present one 4GB ram stick which shows up on HWinfo as PC3-12800. I have now obtained another 4GB module which is marked PC3-12800U. I haven’t been able to find out what the ‘U’ signifies so am not sure whether it’s OK to put it in the spare slot. Can anyone help please? Cheers, John

Yep, you have to go out of your way to get buffered memory.

Just in case you didn’t know, PC3 12800 memory is also sold as DDR3 1600.

The transfer speed works out as base clock of 800Mhz, X2 because its DDR and X8 because the 64 bit bus is 8 bytes wide so 12800 Mbs.
