      After a long and ultimately fruitless battle with his ancient GA-990-FXA-UD3, I gave up and decided to build him the best system I could as a Budget build that would get him to Win10 when he realises that he has to do that. (As do I of course!) What puzzled me was the fact that 1 stick of 8GB RAM was cheaper than 2 x 2GB. He will never need more than that and he does not need a high end gaming machine. In the old desktop there was a Sapphire AMD Radeon 4800, which will be redundant now I guess. The old box has a Thermaltake 500 Watt PSU, fans and a DVDRW that I have tried to convince him is also redundant. He wants his old 1 TB spinner, but I have a newer 1TB that I will stick in the system, with a fresh Win7/64 install. Parts on the way from Amazon. I researched alternatives until my eyes ached, this seemed to be the best, cheapest option.

        Bob, the CPU doesn’t have onboard graphics, you need to find ones ending in G.

        but I suspect the 200GE @ £40.98 will do just as well for his needs. https://tinyurl.com/y6z2mpm6 I use them in office builds, they are still 2 core / 4 thread – like an i3.

        Or of course you can reuse the 4800.

          Thanks Dave. I think I will reuse the 4800, it’s not a bad old card, he played the few games he likes on it using the old system. I was after a system with a bit of future proofing and something he could use to carry out his Stationary Engine Club admin more efficiently. That activity has really helped his dyslexia over the last few years, wonderful how much a computer can do that, as opposed to struggling with pen and paper. Although his writing has also improved enormously. At 51!
