Been a busy day and was about to do some catch up work on AOL when I received the dreaded ERROR 1 message, I have tried the suggested –
tools – Internet options – security tab > Internet zone – and Enable Protected mode is ticked > Trusted sites – enable protected mode is ticked.
Have restarted my PC and still get the same error code in AOL and in Chrome, have tried accessing AOL via IE and still have the same Error 1 message.
I really do need to get to my emails asap.
Thanks in advance – W7 Ultimate OS. The problem is specific to AOL.

July 30, 2019 at 10:37 pm #35364There is a problem with AOL at the moment – my wife can’t get onto her account either off her own PC.
Thanks Dave will try your suggestion but it seems possibly that AOL has a problem.

July 30, 2019 at 10:57 pm #35369Is AOL still a thing?
Arch Linux, on a Ryzen 7 1800X, 32 GB, 5 (yes -5) HDs inc 5 SSDs, 4 RPi 3Bs + 1 RPi 4B - one as an NFS server with two more drives, PiHole (shut yours), Plex server, cloud server, and other random Pi stuff. Nice CoolerMaster case, 2 x NV GTX 1070 8GB, and a whopping 32" AOC 1440P monitor.
July 30, 2019 at 11:52 pm #35371I only use my aol account to check the junk mail folder once a month for any accidental diverts. I gave up on it when oath took over and I didn’t like the look of their terms .
I’ve just accessed my account and could read the inbox ok and forwarded them to my gmail account, ( that’s normally automatically done, so something is up there, ) and deleted 128 junk emails.
Give it a try now – it may have just been fixed – if not, it may be something from your (and your Missus’s end ) although affecting both separately makes that unlikely!!
Good luck.
July 30, 2019 at 11:57 pm #35372Yes all OK now, seems to have been a problem the AOL end thankfully!!

+1. Oath also make it just about impossible to opt-out of the multitude of third parties to whom your info is sold.If they do not actually break the GDPR regulations they come pretty damn close to it!
If I come across a site that does use Oath I either junk it straight away or use a ‘ Disposable ‘ Browser.
