*at Lincoln County Hospital. What I hope might be the last for a while, I am truly fed up with travelling to and from various hospitals and I know exactly how those of you who feel, who have to do this on a regular basis. Lincoln 30 + miles, Grimsby 23 miles, Scunthorpe I forget but it means a combination of roads, Beverley 35+ miles, Hull a bit more. Of them all, Grimsby is the easiest journey, best parking, IMO best care and treatment. Probably as many consultants as Her Majesty, but not as well paid.
This is to investigate last issues with waterworks, prostate and right kidney. Possibly something else to lose in time, possibly not. Whatever, I will survive. Next is my missus, who had an MRI scan at Lincoln last week. Her new hip has not taken, or there is a connected issue. It never ends, what joy there is in getting old!

+1
It is a B-getting old, but some folk seem to manage the process better than others. You and your SWMBO seem to be two such people.
My own philosophy is ‘use it or lose it’, but whereas a half marathon walk used to be an excuse for a gentle pub crawl, it is now more just a slightly breathy crawl!

What he said.
July 26, 2019 at 12:33 pm #35198Yes Bob, best wishes to the pair of you. There is only one thing worse than all the appointments and that is not getting any real solution to or explanations for the issues. I hope that neither applies in your cases.

Of those that do, in my experience and opinion, most seem to be in the smaller stature spectrum. Whether this is due to power/weight/stress factors I don’t know. But I’ve been 6′ since I was 12 and from age 21 I’ve ranged from 13 stone to 18 stone and it isn’t easy these days.
In the 90’a an older ( by 25 years ) friend told me ” Old age doesn’t come alone – it brings along more than a few unwanted friends!!” I found it amusing at the time – less so these days!!!
July 26, 2019 at 1:16 pm #35203Good luck and best wishes to you both.

JCD, that’s interesting. I have reduced over the years from 5’7″ and am now 5’5″. That last was today and the previous was 5’4½”, which means either the previous measurement was inaccurate, or I have grown a half-inch. My Gert (4’9″) declares that she will soon have that ½” back, don’t really know what she means and too afraid to ask!
I was around 150 pounds when running, which for my height was judged excessive for one PTI, until he saw nothing but the rear of my vest on a cross-country run. I have always looked ‘fat’ to some, others who knew me had a different opinion. ‘Stocky’ is me! During Chemo last year I was almost down to that again, now I have put some back on due to my Gert’s cooking.
I don’t agitate over all my medical mishaps, no point. But I do try to keep my ‘engine’ working as well as possible, hence all the walks. I have been told that my heart and lung functions are fine and that is the key I think, keeps the good and healthy stuff circulating and helps with any issues. As long as they continue in that vein (pun intended) and all my marbles stay in the bag, I can keep on truckin’.
The scan today was face down, checking mainly the kidneys but also other bits. I fell asleep. My Gert’s words: “Only you could fall asleep during a CT scan!”

I'm out.July 26, 2019 at 9:20 pm #35220Bob, totally agree about keeping the ‘engine’ working. I have asthma, when diagnosed it was deemed life threatening.
Now I have the lungs of a semi-pro/ pro athlete.
I went into the gum this morning and one of the instructors was there on my favourite exercise bike. He’s a big lad, 6′ 2″ odd, all muscle. Was apparently a Wales rugby hopeful but an injury stopped that.
He finished on the bike, wiped it down and I jumped on and apart from adjusting the saddle height carried on with the resistance settings he’d set. (Max on air resistance and 4 out of 7 on magnetic). I could see him watching while he did some cleaning. After my 20 minute set he came over and asked how I could do the power output I managed. Autism was my reply, shut off the rest of the world and nail it.

Sounds exactly like my Aspergers grandson Nolan! He has what appears to be a tall, very thin, pale body but possesses good physical strength and stamina. On the face of it, a typical ‘IT nerd’ but he also speed-walks 2 miles to work and back every morning. He has Thyroid and Vitamin D issues, but even as a child he had strong arms and could run good distances. Whatever he decides to do, he follows through until he nails it, just as you describe. Problems are meat and drink to him, he fires up his intelligence and kills them, doesn’t matter how long it takes. That means missing hours of a day sometimes, he has to be reminded to eat and sleep. Every night at I give him 3 rings at midnight, if he doesn’t answer I hang up. If he answers I remind him to got to bed. His boss is in awe of him and has thanked me more than once for bringing him to the company 7 years ago.
