I purchased M$ Office 2016 Licence Key off ebay, had a link telling me to go to office.com/setup

enter the product key and select your country and language. – click on continue, download the office setup and open it.

On offic.com I setup an account (for outlook) etc then I downloaded office setup, office installed I went to activate online, it seemed busy so I went activate on the M$ freephone I was asked a couple of questions and filled in the 8 boxes (like activating Windows)  it came back with numbers for each empty box. It then activated, all seems fine.

I have just been on My ebay and they have pulled the sale off.

Does this mean the seller was dodgy am I to find Office activation will stop? it’s on a rig I intend to sell on ebay with Office, I am now unsure.

I am sure it was M$ I went on and downloaded it and telephone M$ to activate it.

      From the original ebay purchase

      Cheers
      John

If it’s activated it’s activated for all time. I’ve had this situation on E-Bay loads of times, not had an issue yet in the 18 months or so I’ve buying this way. Same with W10 Pro for a clean install.

However I steer clear of 365.

A bit of a tangent here, sorry. But as the question seems answered….

I got a free copy of MS Word 2000 with a PC I brought in 1999. In 2000 my company sent me on a 2 day training course to learn how to use MS Office 2000 but I was only really interested in Word. Later in 2000 I brought a book called the experts guide to Word 2000 and I still have it. I have used Word 2000 ever since and in short I know how it works !

You may be surprised to know that it still works just fine on W10. I did a reinstall last month from my original disk after I had done a clean install of W10.

I had to do a search for SP3 because Microsoft no longer supplies it but after that I downloaded the compatibility pack from MS so I can even open docx files. Windows update even downloaded some patches and security fixes too.

So long live Word 2000 because I am in no hurry to learn anything newer ?

I’m not sure I use any new features of Word since Office 3.

If you think about it Word Processors were designed to take over from the typewriter so had to have all the things typists really needed since their version 1. Since then it’s been about making them be more like Desktop Publishing apps IMO.

I’m old enough to remember the typing pool. Dictate your letter into a phone system and a day or so later it would appear, a darn sight better than the crap I’d dictated ?

From what I have heard these editions can only be used on a machine that does not have an earlier version of Office, or indeed any version of office. Is this the case as I would otherwise be interested in updating a few machines.

You just uninstall the old version first. I always backup the Outlook mail file too.
