I think this should be safe, but would like confirmation, since my monitors were not cheap (I may have found inexpensive – but that’s a different thing)

Is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropyl_alcohol safe as a cleaning solution for LCD monitors? All three are mat finish, and I vape, so cleaning is a requirement.

Arch Linux, on a Ryzen 7 1800X, 32 GB, 5 (yes -5) HDs inc 5 SSDs, 4 RPi 3Bs + 1 RPi 4B - one as an NFS server with two more drives, PiHole (shut yours), Plex server, cloud server, and other random Pi stuff. Nice CoolerMaster case, 2 x NV GTX 1070 8GB, and a whopping 32" AOC 1440P monitor.

I use a spray – wipes are useless – that I’ve had for years so can’t find the original specs, but it was very much like this.

However I’ve found the old magic window cleaner formula of water + vinegar  works just fine on laptop / monitor screens and PC cases. Spray it on the cloth, not the surface to be cleaned as you’ll probably over do it and get run off.

50:50 IPA/Water is fine for screens, but a damp microfibre cloth works OK as well, but I’m not familiar with Vape residues.

I have never thiugjt twice about what I clean my screens with, I usally use Polish, but spray it on the cloth then wipe. Also used window cleaner, same, spray on cloth not screen.

Never had any issues. Same way I clean the tvs in the house and pub.

I hear washing liquid (the cloths one), diluted in warm water is amazing at cleaning streak free, and cleans aitjin form plastics to stainless steal. Works better than it does on cloths.

3 years ago I made the mistake of taking Sky Q TV, BB and calls. It took them ages and several offers bribes to talk me into it. One of the inducements was a big spray bottle of lens cleaner, with 2 microfibre cloths. We have used that ever since, for TV screen, monitor and laptop screens, phones, tablets and specs. The bottle is still a good 1/3 full after 3 years, the lens cleaner does a great job and the cloths come out of the washer to be used as if new

Sky Q did not last so long: gone 2 years ago. The best thing that came out of Sky for us, was the engineer they sent, who found faults that BT missed. This resulted in a new line to the house, moved nearer to a new BT socket that was stamped BT and not “GPO” (I kid you not). At least I got something out of the deal that lasted!

When the Thought Police arrive at your door, think -
              I'm out.
