Just in case anyone didn’t know – the Cup Final is live (and build up now) on BBC iPlayer in 4k/UHD.
May 18, 2019 at 4:15 pm #33447That must be for those who have no terrestrial channel services BL, right? As it’s also on Beeb1 right now.

I'm out.May 18, 2019 at 4:48 pm #33449yeah Bob – terrestrial is not 4K/UHD though – only get that option through the iPlayer.
May 19, 2019 at 6:22 pm #33484Sorry, I didn’t know that BL. As my declining sight can tell no difference between that and HD 1080p, I have never considered it.
I often wonder what my parents would make of even 1080p. Or my big brother, who passed in 1988. For my dad, the big news was colour TV, which meant he could watch snooker without wondering which grey ball was which. And football, which let him see shirt colours again, that he had not seen since his last live match many years before. That’s when he began stealing TV time from my mother!

I'm out.May 20, 2019 at 12:32 pm #33491I know what you mean Bob. I have a 4K telly (Sony Android 55″) and it did look very good- but I only noticed for about 5 minutes then just pay more attention to what you are watching (the annihilation of Watford) than the quality. I’m the same with lower quality stuff (wonky streams etc) – if its watchable I’m fine – bad audio is what really grates rather than the picture. I compared the 4K with the terrestrial broadcast (not sure if that is 1080p or 1080i) and it (to me) was noticably better, but the 1080 version was absolutely fine. Much bigger difference between HD and a Freesat SD broadcast than between 4K and HD in my opinion.
May 20, 2019 at 3:17 pm #33495That’s probably because 1080p is upscalled on a 4k TV, so the difference isn’t that great. If you sit close enough you could tell, but form the standard distance of further it all looks the same.
Current stood looking at a 55inch 4k TV (1080p us), a a 40 inch 1080p and 2x 24 inch 720p all showing golf. From where I am they all look as sharp as each other. They are all 10 to 30 foot away from me.
