so my Kabyle lake build requires windows 10,

what is the crack? Why is 100 quid justifiable? when the rest of the build is only £200

You can buy a genuine Windows 10 licence on eBay for around a tenner or so. Many of us have done just that, without problems.

Today’s purchase (and successful installation) of W10 Pro http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152396384450

Key turned up in email at the same time as the purchase confirmation.

Yeah, I got my last keys from play-asia.com and not had any problems.  I think MS’s business model has changed, they want more people using the OS and using their online store for subscriptions and upgrades.

I suspect that M$ have realized that more people are upgrading less and using eBay/Linux. This will ultimately result in M$ losing money as people are not buying their products thus keeping prices higher.  As long as M$’s profits fall prices will be kept artificially high. As others have said buy a key of eBay.

Yes it was clear with 8 (light, forgot its name) they wanted to get the masses into a sanitised marketplace. They get a nice 20 cut and the user a safe experience. I think it would of been good for all IF they would of gone about it right.

Gave 8light away as Home for free, and charged £100 for the pro big boy windows, or what was win 8, with the option to turn metro off,or Dail it back.

That I think would of worked. Still let “Home”  run programs, in a vm environment, like vista had with xp, that would of been enough for people to install office 2003, and creative cloud  that’s all normal people, it would of been enough to of a bone to stop large out cry, but give enough “friction” to move to 365, go en enough incentive.

By that point, you would of had the masses with their noise in the door, which would of brought 3rd parties running, and if ms curated it like Apple, it would of worked. By 10 (or 9) the masses would of been converted to metro shopping.

And the geeks, which are probably 0.5‰ of windows users, would of been happy using win 10 as we know it.

I recall thinking this at the time, as I know it was rumours that the light version is what Ms actually wanted to run with after 8.

Back to ms turning a blind eye to the cheap codes, they just want xp to GTFO of here. It’s just messing up the Internet, and a kid ripping of xp, isn’t going to pay £100+ for a ligit, version of Windows, he is going to rip off a version of 10, but but for £10, he may just buy it. It’s probably £6 in ms pocket they wouldn’t of got. Plus it gets xp off the net,and hopefully a new customer for metro shopping.

I use the BT sports app, that’s it. What do you guys use? I don’t usually do recreation out side of gaming, not even browsing on my pc’s, but Windows is my only in to BT sports I’m aware of, and Android. But I’d rather watch the footy on a large screen.

All you had to do is look at the ridiculously easy “Windows 10 free upgrade for customers who use assistive technologies” requirements http://tinyurl.com/h5evwfp

I say had as they don’t even bother to list any examples of “assistive technologies” any more.

Let’s just say if you use an unusual mouse or have ever zoomed in cos you haven’t admitted you need glasses (or haven’t had an eye test for a while) you qualify.

I think a blind eye is being turned with both eyes.

must admit the 10 keys worry me a bit, only in the sense (a) where have they come from and (b) will they get blocked a little way down the line. Probably not. Dave is spot on with the Assistive Technologies upgrade, done loads for people now.

If starting from scratch I still prefer the caveman approach of buying a W7 key (with COA) for peanuts – installing and activating  that with no faffing/upgrading and then upgrading to 10 using Dave’s link. At least there is knowledge that the underlying W7 key came from somewhere half-legit. I’m probably worrying about nothing – but they are around a fiver and only take a little longer than the electronic W10 keys.

EBay is very hot on these things these days.

I’ve had no problems with the Office keys either, and they were checked by MS directly before i even downloaded the software.

Dave I’m really not so sure how hot ebay are – they pull the ones that are glaring – but just have a look how many almost certainly moody TV solutions are sold on there (try “IPTV” or “OpenBox Gift” for example). Been on there years, fairly clearly advertising access to all sorts of premium and/or geo-blocked TV content through mysterious IPTV portals and STB card sharing – and largely left alone – ebay seem to to play a game of nudge/wink with sellers whereby you can go so far with a listing as long as you include certain disclaimers or avoid certain no-nos.

Chances are the keys will stay working, but there’s really no way of knowing how long and once Paypal’s (very limited) protection has run out…who knows……no great shakes for £5/£10 but potentially a lot of aggro to straighten out – especially for someone else.

Check the page where you bought it again.  iirc sometimes you have to try the key twice or activete it by phone – just type a number in and all is well.

                                      Update: 4 out of 4.

1 from http://tinyurl.com/hyewxvo but as they have a limit of 2 in 10 days I got the other 3 from http://tinyurl.com/hvv5q27

So since October it’s 9 out of 9 activated OK.
