I wouldn’t of bothered reporting this but just incase anyone was about to pull the trigger on a TV running FF OS, don’t. The just laid off the last 50 members of the OS team.

        No surprise really.

I’m amazed anyone used it in a TV.

I think it was their hail mary attempt. The phone space was finished before they even launched the FF phone. The TV market is still open for an out the box solution. I’ve tried a few smart tvs and all have been bad.

Maybe this was good on the TV, but oems just are not ready to let go of their in house crap ui’s

The OS on a phone had real potential, if it was launched 18 months before it was. Even on low spec handsets it’s quite nice, just next to no support from 3rd parties.

That’s what I meant by the phone space was finished. I don’t think even 18 months would of changed anything. Ms and Nokia found that out the expensive way. And ms owned the space with phone phone and the xda line. But it’s hard to steer an iceberg. Especially when Balmer though ios a toy, which it was when he said it, but hay history can make you look a fool.

Win phone was decent by 8, and worked well on cheap and very low spec devices, FF and Windows would of had to come in 2009/10 before android took off, android was cemented in as number 2 os in 2011 with the sgs3. To of had a chance you needed to be in before 2010.

However then html5 web apps was in very early development, so that wouldn’t of been possible to get a foothold.  Didn’t Web os rely on html5, (in its name so I’m supposing it was)  that was a cool os with no platform, and no parent company to keep chucking cash at it untill it worked.

Was FF based on web OS? or is that the Samsung TV OS that is Web OS based?  They may both be.

If only there was a way to find out ?

Edit- I just went on ebay to buy a FF phone. £90 I think not.

Still got my little ZTE Firefox OS phone, might be worth a few £ in a couple of years.

There was a ZTE one for £45, but it has android 4.4 on it, so defeats the point of getting it. I was expecting a few of them listed for about £20.

                  Not expecting, rather hoping.

Sadly android has had over 80% marketshare since about 2014.  Which is never a good thing.
