Hey all
I have a friend that is wanting a gaming rig, I believe he wants to play total war 3??
I have asked him his budget and his answer is as little as possible, not helpful I know. Anyone got any good suggestions?
Cheers

February 1, 2019 at 8:01 am #30318Is the Total War Three Kingdoms? Predicted specs are:
OS: Win 10 64
Processor: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz / AMD FX-8370
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
VRAM: 4GB
System Memory: 8 GB RAM
Storage: 60 GB Hard drive spaceFebruary 1, 2019 at 12:15 pm #303288GB ram is probably the minimum spec – the sweet spot seems to have edged towards 16GB for gaming.
February 1, 2019 at 4:58 pm #30338I downloaded the first level of the above at the end of last year when MS were offering it for free.
If you look at the specs on the link it says it requires 8GB and recommends 12GB. I have 12GB installed but the system never uses more than 7.5 GB.
I am using a Radeon RX480 with 6GB onboard so maybe that helps ?

February 2, 2019 at 9:25 am #30347The AMD RX570 is yer man. Big time vs 1050ti
February 2, 2019 at 10:05 am #30348The 570 is basically the old 480. My old card. The 570 is on better silicon and all round a little better. The 480 was my previous card and cost £250. It played everything perfect @ 1080 so long as I did not break the 4 gig frame buffer and the card had to dip into system ram for more buffer.
You can now get the 570 for less than 150 easy and with free games. Amazing value. The 570 is more of a competitor for the 1060 3GB. The 570 is way better than the 1050ti. A balanced rig for the 570 will be an 8 thread processor and 8 gig system ram.
This is looking cost effective already.
February 2, 2019 at 10:19 am #30350It looks like Rapid IT are refurbishers, nothing wrong with that per se, I buy lots of refurbished kit. But the i7 is 4th Generation, so i7-4xxx. The i5 is 2nd generation so i5-2xxx. IMO the 2nd generation is just too old, a Ryzen 2200G will be significantly faster. Plus the motherboard will be 6 or 7 years old, the i7 4 to 5 years old.
If you look at the PCs I’ve been building lately and use a Ryzen 2200G and Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 570 AORUS 4GB you’ll be looking at £465.
For the i7 use a Ryzen 5 1600 and an extra 8GB ram at it’s £625 with the 2TB drive as well.
