Thanks Ed: checking my passwords now, deleting and changing if necessary.

To my amazement my throw away password that we use alot for crap we don’t car about. Mainly newsletter sign ups, that demand a pw but you don’t trust fully. Us only on Thr list twice.

The down side to that is, them 2 sites they got the pw from eoudo of definialy been connected to my email.

In my last pass account that same password is used for about 100 seperate accounts. Non damaging. But I think it is time to drop it. And maybe hit that ‘clean up’ button in last pass that has been pestering for about 2 years.

Nobody cares about me. Not a single one of my 8 most used passwords has been pawned ?

I understand that most (all?) date to some time(s) before 2015, so if you have updated your e-mail since then you should /may be in the clear.

Difficult for me to search as I use so many different email addresses.  My most secure password isn’t there but my second one is but I can’t tell which email it came from.   One of my email addresses on there is from ebay but I suspect it came from one of their 3rd parties which email me junk occasionally.

I’ve just checked the sites list, and there are definitely 15 sites that I’ve used on there, maybe 21. I’ve got a busy night tonight…

I’ve been migrating my logins away from my old aol email address – which did show up on the pwnd web page, so luckily it doesn’t carry across to my new email address, which doesn’t appear.

At the same time, but with a greater degree of difficulty, I’m migrating the wife across onto a free LastPass account to better integrate with my LP Premium account. So long as it is as easy to access her web accounts off LP as it is through the insecure browser security, I’m onto a winner. But not an easy sell!! It also makes it easier for her ( well me on her laptop ) to randomly generate secure passwords and still log in with just a few clicks.

                    Thanks for the heads up.?

I have SWMBO’s Google account available on my desktop, and a truncated version of mine on her laptop. I also have her Outlook on mine and my hotmail on hers. This makes it easier to resolve laptop Panic Issues when a scream issues from 4 rooms away!

If I use a Paypal payment on a ‘foreign’ or previously unknown account e.g. Chibay etc then I will change my Paypal password immediately after use. I really do not trust the sites that helpfully link you ‘directly’ to Paypal as there is no way of telling if they are logging every character sent.

Probably unnecessary but it is a personal paranoia that makes a password manager essential.

I was just talking about passwords with my 10 yo girl, she brought me a piece of a4 paper with all her accounts and her passwords.

                          1. I was amazed he had half of them,

                          2. I was happy she has heard me going on at mum about reusing passwords. (something mum hasn’t done!)

                          3. Her password wasn’t waht I’d call great, but non was on the list.

                          4. I didn’t realise she was so organised.

                          5. I really don’t know what she gets up to, it seems. She is far beyond what her siblings was at. But given the closet to her is 8 years older, the internat age wasn’t trully hear then they was her age.

Need to keep a closer eye on her one thinks.

Ive just explained two factor to her, and she is exited to now go and impliment that on her accounts. Luckily she is on giff gaff, so if she loses her phone, she can still carry her number forward.

These kids are for brighter thsm we take them for. I bet the one behind the hack was only 12.

Updated info here. As Richard stated, much of this is old stuff, but given the terabytes of Dark Web password data referenced in the update it is probably well worthwhile having a minor password panic now and again.

I’ve set Monday night to one side. And I’m gonna go through every site in my last pass and change them all. Even though most are 16 digit random generated pws. I’d have it set higher but alot don’t like more than 16 and then it ends up a bit to much of a faff, you be jumping back and forth.

I may try 32 characters this time, until I hot to many sites that moan.

I must admit, I rearly change passwords on sites. I know you should every few months. But given we must have 100s if not 1000s of sites how is one ment to change them all every other month. That’s a full time roll in itself.

Daughter’s two are our 25 yo gson (IT Technician, local expanding company) and a 13 yo gdaughter (getting A and A* at a local Grammar). After a few years of complaining that his sister was “annoying” they have become really close, mainly due to her growing IT skills. They are now bouncing ideas off each other. His latest moan to me was that she will probably catch him up soon! Listening to gdaughter talking to her mates makes my head hurt. Daughter and SIL gave up trying to understand her homework last year.

I really believe that this latest generation are evolving humans, and that all the Autism/Aspergers and brilliant kids are a sign of it. Your youngest will probably make your head hurt in a few short years’ time, Steve!

Her gob certainly makes my head spin. She is trully turning into a modern kid. Shill and tv are drumming liberalism (social justice warrer like shite) into them.

                                  It’s quite concerning tbh.

My youngest lad that’s very clever and dyslexic, (18), drive me mental. He can’t hold words in his friggin head. He takes everything as literal. This has drove us mad since he was about 5. Lol.

Yes my youngest gson is dyslexic, words “float about” he says, can’t write them down. Yet he can rattle down every password he has on PC, laptop and phone, doesn’t even think about it: “I’m on THIS website – type THIS password”, straight out of his head. We have always struggled with him at school and college, most of which was up to me and my missus, as his dad our son is also dyslexic, though not as bad with words. His dad also works like a dog, had to, brought up gson and sister on his own (with our help) from 2 and 4 years old. Gson also does massive mental Maths in his head, can’t write down the working out but always gets it right. He can also be lazy, failed his Electrical Installations course because the Government brought in a rule in his last few months that all college courses had to include an English and Maths qualification. Passed the Maths easily, had 3 tries at the English but it drives him mad. If they let him do it by computer, it would be a breeze, but he can’t write it down. He had passed all the electrical stuff by a mile, what a waste of a good potential Sparky. He settled for 2 days at an engineering workshop where he had been since Work Experience at school from 14, would not stir himself to get a full time job. Both his dad and me kept nagging him. Finally grandma stepped in and frightened him out of his wits. (my missus is tiny, but has a way with kids!) On Wednesday we took him to a Job Fair at Skegness Butlins and he looks like getting a job there in Engineering Maintenance. He was on fire for it until I asked him if he is OK with living in during the week: its 25 miles from his village and the first bus is at 07:12, takes 1½ hours. He is about to take his CBT bike training and test, then get a scooter/moped from the Council, paid monthly. That’s OK in the warmer months, I told him, but the Maintenance is not seasonal, it’s all year: what about the horrible East Coast winter weather? Silence – they don’t think things through.

He is a massive lad with a lovely temperament, but has been a bigger problem than all the other 3 gkids combined. Just does not think about what is going to happen next week, next year, etc. He could spend for England as well. I see him a lot, as I pick him up from the Engineering shop twice a week and he does come to us a lot, will do anything for us. So I probably understand him more than his dad, but that’s not a lot of understanding as he is very deep and keeps things inside a lot.

Bloody kids, thought I had done with all that years ago!???
