Hi guys
Looking for advice. SWMBO has a 2½ yo Lenovo B50-80 running Win 7/64/Pro. Using Open Office, when she types, sometimes the text jumps about. As SWMBO does not possess much patience, this is harmful to my ears and Peace of Mind.??
She uses a Logitech wireless mouse with a small USB transmitter. I have disabled the touch pad and actually removed its source in Devices, which was absurdly titled “PS/2”. I don’t know what else to do, any ideas?
When I have time (!) I intend to remove all the Lenovo crap from the lappy and reinstall Windows 7. However, too much else happening atm.
Thanks for any advice.

I'm out.December 8, 2018 at 2:54 pm #28973I had a keyboard go foul on me last weekend but I have also heard of radio mice throwing tantrums in the past, that might be worth a check.
December 8, 2018 at 4:02 pm #28974Have you tried plugging the USB transmitter into a different socket?
December 8, 2018 at 4:03 pm #28975Thanks Richard. I doubt that the KB is to blame, but I will check out the Wls mouse.
How are you? Missus OK?

Thanks but that was my first move Jukebox.

I'm out.December 8, 2018 at 4:15 pm #28977After a busy week with bone scans and other scans were are tired. At least daughter has settled into her accommodation, but I am racking up the miles. My wife is feeling the pain of worry while she waits for results, every new pain triggers a new concern. Most of the wounds are settling though a new one was found open and weeping mid week, so the therapy for that is in full swing. She is not always getting dressed as she is not well enough to go out at the moment so sees no point in the extra work and strain. As far as I am concerned we must be guided by how she feels.
Thank you for asking, I trust you are stepping on well.
December 8, 2018 at 4:35 pm #28980I am doing OK atm thanks, tomorrow that may change as I visit my
insultantConsultant to discover results of multiple scans and tests. I don’t mind the constant 40 mile round trips, think I can drive the A16 blindfold now! (Some drivers appear to be doing that anyway?) I also continue to have Free Parking, which is great, if only there were more Blue Badge spaces.I cannot get the powers that be to understand that my nose and sinuses need checking out. Every morning there is a discharge of old blood and mucus, some of it black and obviously old. I intend to ask for an ENT appointment when I see the aforementioned consultant. I am convinced that my recent severe infection, causing a hospital stay of 2 weeks in a quarantined ward, began in my nose and sinuses. Sometimes medical people will not listen to a complaint outside their area of expertise.
Tell your wife that I also suffer pains outside of areas that one would consider caused by ops or associated treatment. I refuse to let it affect me and refuse to think “Is this something else?”

I obviously can’t speak for your wife, but I know that when I was ill and recovering, people trying to get me dressed and out and about could be a pain in the arse*. I needed to do things at my own speed every now and then, and being allowed to do that sometimes was really helpful.
*They had my best interests at heart, but sometimes I just needed to veg out for a few days. Not everyone realises how tiring illness and recovery can be.

Ain’t that the truth!
I get knackered doing nothing (almost) due to the arthritis and the fatigue that goes with it. The fatigue is, IMO, worse than the pain. I can cope with pain very well but fatigue I’m not used too.
December 8, 2018 at 6:06 pm #28983Too right Ryan! Some nights I find my best, deepest sleep is from around 4 or 5 am: the rest of the night is broken by my enlarged Prostate. Good job the WC is right next to the bedroom! My missus understands and does not wake me. Strangely, after getting up around 10 or 11 am, I then feel physically exhausted, so slob about in my dressing gown, eat breakfast and feel better after a shower and shave.
Some weeks ago, I woke as my senior granddaughter came through the door. “Why are you in bed Granddad?”
That is one of the very few times I have seen my missus angry at a grandbrat. “Leave granddad be! Do you not understand what he has gone through this year? He sleeps until he wakes, now get out of the bedroom and keep your voice down!”
I love my GD, but she does tend to speak (loudly) before engaging her brain. She also has definite opinions about everything and everyone. Someday she may learn that not everything is as clear-cut as she sees it.

Perhaps some of that is my fault, I have always had no barriers between my grandbrats and myself and have always spoken to them as if they were adults, even from their early years.
EDIT after reading Nolan’s post: fatigue is definitely worse than the pain. I still cannot get used to not doing what I used to be able to do. For example, as a mechanic and motor engineer, I had tremendous hand strength, right up to my Pancreas op in April this year. The aftermath of that, and the chemo, has robbed me of that strength. I lost so much weight, so quickly, that I still have batwings under my upper arms and much of my muscle wasted away. It is gradually returning, but forgetting that I cannot do this or that, is often disturbing and sometimes painful.
I know it’s coming back, because yesterday I filled my new toolbox and managed to lift it onto its trolley, with ease.

I'm out.December 8, 2018 at 6:18 pm #28985Bob, when I had an ongoing cough I was investigated complete with a camera down into the lung, without a sedative, but that is another story. The conclusion was that I had a resistant lung infection that came from my nose. Since then I have had a twice daily nasal wash, sprays and tablets taken at various times throughout the day. I still have blockages build up that have to be cleared, physically quite frequently, (do not ask, but given the quality and colour I call it coal mining). I would rate the chance of your trouble starting there as very good given what you said.
@Tippon, yes I totally agree, if the body says take a hike (and join the Foreign Office to anyone interfering), do so, the body will tell the inhabitant when it is time to move. She does get moving for appointments and for the moments that is enough for her and for me, she will keep trying to be ‘helpful’ when I would rather she devoted time to herself, but it is best not to argue!December 8, 2018 at 8:36 pm #28986I cannot specifically comment on Lenova laptops but Intel had issues between their Wifi and USB mice. The solution was to put the mouse USB mouse gizmo on a USB hub extension. Messy solution but it works. The idea being to get a bit of separation between the built-in wifi chip and the mouse gizmo.
December 8, 2018 at 11:04 pm #28987Trackpads often use the old PS2 connection, might as well if it’s still there on the mobo.
I have a cheap wifi mouse (Victsing off Amazon) and it works absolutely wonderfully until all of a sudden it scrolls downwards so fast you’re at the bottom of a web page and you haven’t even touched the scroll wheel. Only seems to happen on web pages and the actual browser seems immaterial.
It’s intermittent enough that I can just shrug it off but it’s very annoying when it
happens ?
December 9, 2018 at 3:45 pm #28991Richard, many thanks. You describe to a ‘T’ what happens to me, “coal mining” fits perfectly! I will push for ENT investigation.
As for the Typing text problem: I wonder if a wired USB mouse would work to remove the problem?
Dave, you gave me a clue: the text jumble also only happens on web pages. Opening Open Office Writer and typing, is fine. I get the annoyance second hand, via SWMBO’s frustration and her belief that I know everything.??? (That only happens when something goes wrong!)
It appears that the more we try to get rid of cables, the more we discover that we may actually need them!

I'm out.December 9, 2018 at 4:26 pm #28992IF the problem is similar to that of the Intel chips then a wired mouse SHOULD solve it. I believe with Intel it was interference between the USB mouse signals and the Wi-Fi chip – certainly worth a try if you have a wired mouse handy.
December 9, 2018 at 5:30 pm #28993Don’t have a wired mouse handy Ed, so I sent for this HP item:
My thinking was that
1 – I really should have a wired mouse available anyway, one of those items that is handy to have in reserve.
2 – an HP 1000 dpi model at <£6 has to be worth a try.
Let’s see what happens when SWMBO tries it. ??

I'm out.December 14, 2018 at 10:04 am #29129Have you solved your jumping mouse issue? In the past some optical mice did not like nearby lamps especially the CFLs and perhaps some LEDs depending on the surface on which they were used. I wondered if the circuitry was misreading stray radio signals.
December 14, 2018 at 8:38 pm #29137Thanks Richard, no lamps and/or LED’s close to the lappy, but overhead is a 3-LED light cluster. Going to check that out by using it in the next room.
I changed to an optical wired HP mouse and discovered that it now only jumps around when typing in Web Pages online. I typed a whole A4 page of text in Open Office without a problem.
Back to the metaphorical drawing Board…

I'm out.December 15, 2018 at 10:04 am #29146Presumably the laptop is wifi connected. That looks to be the problem area. You could try a cheap usb wifi dongle and turn off on-board wifi to test this theory, but I’d start by updating the wifi drivers.
