Hi guys
Need to replace my ageing Wileyfox Swift, which is blowing batteries and slowing performance, have replaced battery with a genuine replacement, battery life no different. WF no longer supplying parts or interest.
I am on the Advice Hunt, looking for a new phone, budget around £150+. I don’t need much from it, just 1080p HD and a fairly good camera setup. Android latest, good resolution and general best “bang for Bucks” device. Currently looking at this:
– and preparing for a battle with SWMBO! Any advice appreciated, checking back tomorrow, off to bed now, night-night!??

I'm out.October 27, 2018 at 12:20 am #27588I’ve been looking around this price point and have been keeping an eye on the Moto g series, initially at the G5 currently at the G6.
Similar performance, but I’ve not been keen on Nokia ever since their debacle with Microsoft a few years back. I changed my old Nokia for a Sony and it’s still going after 3 years.
Drezha should be able to give you a good rundown of the G6 (Plus ), he’s had one and just changed it for a Pocophone – see HERE .
Edit – forgot to include the GSM Arena comparison between the Nokia and the G6 HERE .
Amazon have it similarly priced to the Nokia HERE
October 27, 2018 at 10:29 am #27604Hi Bob
Wouldn’t buy that one, it has a cracked screen?????
October 27, 2018 at 11:04 am #27605I’m looking for a around £200 phone too, my trusty G4 is showing screen burn in plus I’d quite like NFC now too.
99% sure I’ll be going for the G6 and probably spend the extra £30 on the Amazon dual sim / 4Gb / 64GB version and the Spigen carbon fibre bumper case.
October 27, 2018 at 1:16 pm #27607Thanks for all the advice guys, but have made a Change of plan: No.1 gson is looking for a Sony via work. As he is currently working 3 days a week and is at Lincoln Uni on a Microsoft course 2 days, then studying at home and also working from home, I have left it with him until he has time.
Apparently the MS course will make him one of only a few with the qualification in the UK. Boss has increased his salary (3rd time this year) and obviously knows what he has, takes him back and forth to Uni. Gson just grins and says “Becoming even more indispensable, granddad!” I am so proud of him: with his Aspergers defeated, he has a top job with a great expanding company, his own ‘Executive’ apartment in a Gated compound, shops and looks after himself. Happy as Larry on his own or with family. I wish a similar outcome for all Aspergers – affected young people, but I know it doesn’t always happen.
Anyhoo, I am now looking for a dash cam.

I'm out.October 27, 2018 at 1:33 pm #27608Your head and mine are in sync somewhat!! I’ve been researching and I like THIS one. Recently dropped £20. ??
I do a lot of researching, but never have that spare cash to follow it through. Still, Christmas is coming…!!
October 27, 2018 at 2:34 pm #27610The G6 Dave linked to is what I’d be looking at for that kind of money.
Having said that if anyone wants a mint G5 that was used for about a week, let me know. Mum wanted to get rid off it not long ago so would probably let it go for a very nice price.
October 27, 2018 at 3:05 pm #27611Nolan I may be interested in the G5, let me know how much your mum would want please. That would be chum to the Hudl, which I still have and which works fine.
JayCeeDee, thanks for the link, but that dash cam is a bit too expensive for me, my car is a Motability Hyundai iX20 and had to get permission, with no permanent installation, just a temporary fix. Fortunately, I have (2x) 12v sockets, one in console and one under dash. If I can afford cam and phone, I will get both. Wileyfox has suddenly decided to work without killing batteries now: I suspect that comes down to internet working again and the EE Brightbox taking the weight. The Box was a brilliant addition, I can actually get 4G from it. Rest of village struggle to get 2G, it is very bad coverage here, zero in mornings.
Cheers, Bob.

I'm out.October 27, 2018 at 3:16 pm #27612Will do Bob. I’ll be speaking to her later and be over there tomorrow
October 27, 2018 at 3:49 pm #27614@planeman If Bob doesn’t take you up on that offer, please put me in line for it.?. I’ve been looking at the G6 but the G5 is a smaller step up in size so might suit me better.?
Cheers
October 27, 2018 at 3:51 pm #27615No problem JCD.
October 27, 2018 at 4:04 pm #27617I get confused with the moto models – which are the ones with the big batteries – that is my priority these days. I’m currently on a Lenovo P2A42, but also picked up (as a possible replacement) an Asus Zenfone Pro Max when the ebay 10% deal was on. Both have monster batteries but I know one or more of the Motos does too. Their model numbers do my nut in.
October 27, 2018 at 6:27 pm #27622In order of features and price: G6 Play – G6 – G6 Amazon Special – G6+
Doesn’t help with battery life as the more features (especially bigger screens) the more power is used.
These days I usually get a day and a half out of everything which’ll do me, but I’m not a heavy user. Maps – directions seems to be my battery killer.
Portable power banks are so cheap now I keep one in the backpack. Picked one up at Lidl for £15 a month ago, no idea of the mAh but it’ll charge my G5 more than twice and does so @ turbo 3 amps. It has a read out of charge left as well. MyMemory have a Ren Pal Monster 26000mAh for £18, bought one a while ago to power my WiFi test kit but the daughter “borrowed” it.
October 28, 2018 at 7:43 pm #27658I’m flogging the Pocophone as it’s not for me. Used for about a week but probably cant return to Laptops Direct.
Also got the G6 Plus that I’ll probably stick on eBay, unless someone is interested in that as well. I did prefer that one to the Pocophone to be honest – just in terms of size and weight.

Nolan, for some reason I can’t reply to your messages. All I need to say is that I can’t afford the phone atm: Unexpected expense on the house front, sorry!
JCD, if you want it, go for it mate.

October 29, 2018 at 8:29 pm #27698@planeman Hi PM – I’ve PM’d you ………….so to speak!!?
October 29, 2018 at 8:48 pm #27699Drez – PM me with a price for the G6. Just waiting to be paid for my last last 3 jobs, then I’ll have some disposable ?
Bob- got this Dash Cam for a CCTV customer and his son likes it so much he’s nicked it. Only £29 (+ SD card) SVMUU Full 1080p HD on Amazon. Does the same job as the others from what I can see. Picture quality is fine. If the Mrs wants one this is what I’ll get.
October 30, 2018 at 6:07 pm #27721Thanks Dave: I was looking at this –
Now I am thinking about that link. Probably involve the cost aspect and go for that choice. Just had a ginormous electrical problem, landlord won’t help. Added to the garden renovation on Friday, have to draw in my horns a bit.

I'm out.November 4, 2018 at 11:25 am #27949A big “Thanks” to PM ( and his Mum ) – the G5 is doing me a treat. Just a bit bigger than my Sony without being too big a leap. Mostly all set up now, just a few little tweaks left to do – like getting used to the new Notification sounds!! ???
