I’ve got an old tablet and holder for the car with headphones etc., but it’s too old to install a decent media player from the Play Store. I’ve managed to download or convert a load of kids programs and music videos for Alice for long journeys, but can’t get them to play/

I’ve got MX Player Pro, but it wants a codec pack which won’t install. I’ve tried VLC and it didn’t work. I can’t remember why, so I’ll try it again tomorrow.

The tablet is an Advent Vega, so there are some updates available. It’s a bit late to look tonight, so I’ll see how it looks tomorrow.

All I want to do is set it playing and go through whatever videos are on the device. Playback by folder would be better, so I can select TV or Music, or the top level folder to play all. Playlists would also be good, but as Ellen may end up using it more than me, just dropping videos into the proper folders would be easiest.

      Any ideas please guys?

I suspect you’ll need a legacy version of whichever media player you try.

If one of the updates is for the play store you might just get lucky if it updates the services as well. I have a feeling you could waste a lot of time trying to get it to work.

BS Player is very similar to MX and doesn’t need the codec pack all codec are integrated). If it doesn’t show up in your play store you can download the apk using this site. If still no joy then as suggested try an older version of one of the players. Oh and another player that I find quite capable is the one that comes with ES File Explorer

Thanks guys, but I’m going to have to postpone this for a day or two. It hasn’t dropped below 30 degrees in the house today, so even going near anything electrical has been painful 🙁
