Forumite Points: 0So I sold some items on eBay Sunday. I haven’t sold on eBay for a little while, but things seemed fine.
One of my items is going to a shipping centre, I thought I had unticked international sellers, but ok, that’s no big deal.
But then I went to print a postage label. eBay doesn’t offer this, unless you are buying postage through them. Well, that’d be great, but “Weight is over maximum limit for all shipping services, or no shipping service is available now.”
So something that is meant to help out is completely useless!
January 18, 2017 at 12:31 pm #2168I think it only works if they guess the weight right and you go with their default postage option (which in your case was no good). I sold loads back end of last year, and have accounts set up with Royal Mail and Hermes (small, medium and Special Delivery), Collect Plus and UPS (medium and large). The one thing that does look promising is the ebay postage system they are rolling out where you can drop the item in to your local Argos (mine is not on the programme yet) instead of a post office. The rates looked very competitive for “tracked and signed for” items

January 18, 2017 at 2:25 pm #2170I’ve collected items from Argos before – I think you can just send it to an Argos as well but I’m not 100% sure of that as none of the items I’ve recently sold have had to go that way.
I’ve never bothered with eBay’s postal system – I either stuck with the local post office just up the road or used Hermes as I could drop that off at a shop that was open (and when I worked at London, I didn’t have to deal with the god awful staff in the Kings Cross post office who would consistently upsell you – occasionally “mishearing” you and trying to send it special delivery… ಠ_ಠ)

January 18, 2017 at 2:47 pm #2172yeah you can post from Argos – but not that many branches at the moment…..there’s a store checker on that link above. The main benefit seems to be its all tracked and signed for.
January 18, 2017 at 6:22 pm #2197Got excited about this, as I am going to be selling some tech and ‘pooter stuff this year (directions from distaff side)
Then I find that Lincolnshire loses out yet again: nothing nearer than Kings Lynn. Almost 45 miles away, through the madness that is Boston, probably 55 miles the long, but sane, way round. Bugga!

I'm out.January 18, 2017 at 6:41 pm #2199My instinct is this is very early stages and will hopefully roll out. I’ve got 3 Argos near me – one is a bigg’un (Gallows Corner, Romford) – but not “on the list” (don’t tell him Pike) – whereas Ilford a few miles away is on the list (even though its a smaller branch). I really hope so because if you compare prices, a lot of carriers add on extra for a signature and sometimes tracking, whereas it is all-in with ebay. Fingers crossed, but saying that RM, Hermes, Collect+, UPS all very local and convenient for me.

Lovely old skatepark there.
Spent many a day with people from all over the country in it.
January 18, 2017 at 7:15 pm #2202Had to google it – must have driven past it 1000s times and never noticed. I do remember my Dad taking me to “Skate City” as a young teenager (I’m 50 now so probably late 70s) in Tooley Street, London, where the “Hays Galleria” business centre is now….happy days (right in the shadow of HMS Belfast).

January 18, 2017 at 7:22 pm #2203Over Plywood, mentioned in the link popped up in my instagram feed earlier today, my mate who runs a skateshop in Newport is great mates with the guy behind it.
Also spent lots of time at Royal Oak (Meanwhile 2), South Bank and the Shell Centre.
As well as anywhere else I could afford to get to.
