While looking on the links blacklion & bob provided in my other thread (Music out the PC)

I transferred my thoughts to bluetooth.

I have purchased some bluetooth headphones off ebay. For it to work on my TV I need to purchase one of these. (not yet purchased)

As regards my PCs I have bluetooth dongles CSR 4.0, in which I transfer photos from my mobile to PC.

I am not sure if these dongles can be used for audio output to bluetooth headphones.

Looking on the CSR 4.0 link (above) it does say use for headphones, how does it work I have only ever found how to transfer photos.

      Cheers
      John

I have the same (differnt make, but the same) BT dongle. I use it in my car, but it will work for a tv too.

Once you put the dongle into sync mode (long press the large button), then put your ear phones into sync mode, they will see each other.

To reconect you’ll just turn earphones on.

Not so sure with a TV – neither my 2013 Samsung nor 2017 Sony will pair with any bluetooth headphones I’ve tried. Searching on the forums (samsung and sony) it seems the only way to get bluetooth i to get a transmitter connected to the headphone socket on the TV which is clearly pants. May vary by make but unfortunately for me is a non runner. Apparently to do with the bluetooth profiles implemented (or not) on the TVs. The bluetooth is intended for keyboards and the like I think.

Great if it works for your TV though.

It will defo work, the only issue will be how the tv handles having an aux (headphone) connector in permanently. As once the aux is detected, the tv may only want to output via the aux out. Though you may be able to select via your remote if you want main speakers or headphone out.

So to get round this, you may have to unplug the dongle for when you want ‘normal’ viewing sound, and plug it back in when you want headphone (BT) sound.

Considering to other otiosn is to get a wired extention for normal headphones you’d still be getting up to plug and unplug when needed.

yeah sorry reading it again I missed John had a transmitter too – was thinking he was pairing the headphones to the TV directly. On your point – I think as you say the headphones connected directly will generally mute the TV speakers. Note to self – read posts more carefully.

It is a shame TV manufacturers haven’t taken on the Roku option of headphones connected to the remoter control.

Agree, the roku remotes are great expecially  for bedrooms. And for partners with bad hearing. The FiL had the tv so loud we bought him a bt set up years ago.

I’ve got a CSR 4.0 dongle for my PC and it works great. You just pair the two devices, and they do the rest. I got the dongle after my thread here:

                  https://forumite.co.uk/forums/topic/bluetooth-audio-from-pc/

and this is the dongle I bought:

Sorry for the confusion I am buying a transmitter (see first post)for the TV.

It was how the CSR 4.0 dongle works, Tippon and Duke said about syncing.

You have to look hard even to find a TV with a jack and then it’s only by sight.

Duke at the present time I use a wired extension to the headphones (from the TV) it is muted when I plugin  the jack. With the transmitter on my first post, this has a jack that plugs in the same, so the TV mutes.

The reason for the CSR question, is I am thinking, already having that in both rigs, I can use my wireless headphones on both PCs (which ever I am using for sound) and the TV.

At the moment I have a wired pair of headphones for the TV and a wired pair for the PC/s

It’ll be cool I can put the headphones on listen to TV, listen or to PC 1 or PC2 and even shut her out.

So that’s 4 purposes from one set of headphones.

                    Cheers
                    John

I use my head phones like that. Same pair, service my phone (3) , my pc, laptop and watch, and also car.

They rearly get mixed up. And if it is its always the phone wanting to bully control of the Earphones, if say I’m listening on my laptop, but a simple toggle of the phones BT fixes that.

I suppose it’s earphone dependant on how many seperate connections they can store, but mine must have At least 8 BT access points.

Something ignored on the the spec sheet, when I’ve bought BT buds before.

Duke I never considered that, I hope mine stores at least 3. The headphones are cheapos (considering what you could pay) off ebay.

That was something ignored, infact I only looked at the price and style (nothing else)

At least I will know why if they don’t store the 3.

                        Cheers

Steve, while I was looking for info on setting up BT+chromium on my Pi, I came across this thread which appears to say that Chromecast does not play with BT speakers.

I do not use Chromecast so I cannot check, neither can I tell how old is the thread. As you use both maybe you can comment if this is a real BT issue, or maybe a good reason to choose Alexa over Chromecast.

[edit] I scrolled to the end of the long thread and discovered that some idiot in Google had deliberately disabled this option, but it has now been switched on!

I didn’t know they worked as simple BT speaker either. Thanks for the heads up

I purchased blutooth headphones & a 3.5 -Blutooth adapter (for the TV) off ebay.

They connected to both PCs and the TV, pretty good I thought. I had been using them for a couple of weeks.

Now headphones won’t pair with anything, even using a 3.5 jack wired (headphones to TV) gives low or no sound.

I suppose you get what you pay for.

Can anyone suggest reliable gauranteed to work for longer than 2 weeks (maybe at least 12 months) over ear bluetooth headphones (£20-£30 freepost) I am looking at these, on Amazon.

                              Cheers
