An item of post today attracted both my wife’s and my instant interest. A cheque from HMRC returning an over payment of tax stating I sent in a claim for repayment. Not recognising any such claim, I smelt a rat. Apparently my ’16~’17 return suggested I had over paid. HMRC figures have now confirmed the overpayment so I now have a totally unexpected refund check – I can now buy the new kitchen tap I need, (see another thread).

I got my VED refund for the old Swift today, wasn’t expecting it anywhere near that quickly. A whole £5.
