First Trump moves the US Embassy to Jerusalem in the certain knowledge that this will destabilise the Middle East

Then he tears up an agreement with Iran that the rest of the world think worth keeping.

Now he spurns even the remote possibility of a peace deal with North Korea.

Is this a country we should even want to have a relationship with, let alone a special ‘lap-dog’ relationship?  Frankly the US have demonstrated to me that they cannot be trusted as far as we can spit, let alone as a leader of the ‘Free’ World.

Was there ever any basis for discussion between fat boy slob and the one who some thought better than Hilary?

The art of negotiation no longer appears to be understood in much of the world, generally it does mean that both sides need to be able to slide their positions in pursuit of something better. Fat boy being, (in his eyes) an anointed god is not capable of negotiation. As for captain haircut, he probably realised there was no percentage in it to help his bank balance any more.

Be is defo a better choice than hillery, but that doesn’t mean he was a good choice.

We issue should be how the hell did they get to them as the only options?

Given we rely on their navy, I suppose we just have to ‘keep on, carrying on’.

We hardly have the best leadership ourselves.

Use them when it suits ourselves, DUMP them when it doesn’t. We should take a leaf out of the USA’s play book.

They can do that as they have the power. We sadly can’t as we are dependent on them. It’d a shitty situation, that links back to the 70s, when we decided it would be cheaper to use US navel support instead of maintaining our own. Out ships, the majority are peace keeping humanitarian ships.

Easy solution – stop acting like a world power when we are NOT! Start acting like Sweden, make/take money from anyone.

Get rid of Trident, scrap the unusable carriers with no suitable aircraft. Concentrate on our borders, which means proper coastal defence. Small, fast, heavily armed patrol boats, more fast destroyers, more hunter-killer submarines, more land-based air cover. Properly investigate drones of all sizes. Invest in more recruits for special forces. All affordable if we scrap the Trident and the carriers, with change to expand Border Forces.

The carriers have cost £6 billion ‘upfront’. They have no aircraft and no prospect of having any, thanks to American mismanagement of untried, unproven complex aircraft systems. They will cost £millions a day while at sea. There are not enough surface vessels to protect the carriers. Last year, during sea trials, the Q.E. leaked many thousands of liters of seawater via the propeller shaft seals. The cost of repairs was more £millions.

“White Elephant” does not even begin to cover it. Putin must be wetting his pants…

Trump’s latest shenanigans at the G7 reminds me of the ‘Fall of the Roman Empire’.  We and all the rest of the suckers allies have been providing the mercenaries and buffer zones that prop up a fading empire with the US providing a trustworthy political centre. Just like the Romans the US is becoming greedy and self-centred and doing things that hurt its allies.  Time Magazine had an article likening Trump to Caligula – it looks like that analogy could well be accurate.

As the BBC commentator remarked last night it is almost better to be like the North Koreans or Russians than an ally, as US treaties and pacts will not be honoured.

I think I should edit out the question mark on ‘Untrustworthy’

Our PM complicates the situation by trying to play both sides against the middle. Trying to side with the Trumper one minute, then being conciliatory with the EU and others the next. I wish we had a PM with a pair of stones! In further consideration, I wish we had a pair of stones anywhere in Westminster.???

Steve, I cannot agree that Trump is better than Hilary, that has been proved wrong many times over now. The man is just as much a megalomaniac as Kim, with the difference that Kim knows exactly what he’s doing. Trump does not have a clue from one Twitter post to the next, diplomacy is not in his vocabulary, patience and serious political thought are impossible for him. IMO, he is a greater danger to world peace than Putin. Every day he denies reality.

We will have to agree to disagree on that bob.

I can live with that Steve, no point in denying each other’s POV.
